Crazy idea for sowing rape?

Silage chopper through it to chop and spread?
Drill a pass down the side of the bout then flick over with a single rotor rake and drill where the row was? (Could even ted it out after)

I guess you put this question in Cropping to get some conventional answers Will, but you know very well that the rape will be twice as good if you rake the straw off and sacrifice the strips for the straw to rot, Crovetto style.

I'm wondering will it rot down my next year? It isn't a stupid idea though

Another option would be to bale slightly wet give it away for cost of baling and turn chopper on next time

Swaths take a surprisingly long time to rot down, I remember in '06 after a particularly wet spell a 30 ha field of wheat straw that didn't get baled, it was left and baled after a dry windy spell in early March ( for mushroom compost ) and didn't look bad at all !!

I have baled wheat straw in Feb on a field that was going into spring barley, so leaving it over the winter for a dry spell of weather didnt alter cropping plans anyway

Thinking about this a bit more, a diner chop would be preferable. Do you have access to a forage harvester? Blow the straw across the wind or remove the spout for a good spread. How much straw is there? A high yielding crop through a straw walker combine will mean a big bulk to get through.

Broadcast it now , do nothing with straw

Push it into a few big heaps and a box of swan vestas latter. Anyone else remember the reco straw dozer that was ma\de to push straw from around the headlands to clear it ready for making fire breaks in the straw burning days '

Just row it up and torch it someday when winds blowing right direction.
