Tractor dilemma

Rob - Dont buy the kubota ,will break your heart ,pocket ,and your back ,
Our potato man had 5 ,well 6 because one was always broken down and had a prop up , none of them liked them ,all gone now ,,ok for a stockman yard tractor , spend an odd hour in it ,
Would rather have a 25 year old mainstream tractor than a new orange kangaroo ,will send you his number if you want ,
Trade fastrack and case ,and find a nice deere and put a loader on it , some good stuff coming up at sales ,

The 5 series? Or another?
How are you finding yours?

Its Ttv. I wouldn’t have a non vario tractor. To use it is really rather complicated compared to the JD and I don’t see how you could sensibly use it at all without a lot of reading of the manual.
I quite like it, probably still prefer the old JD (but then I am very comfortable with it and I’m not that keen on change) but the convenience of the local dealer counts for so much.
I don’t even know how the price would of compared against a new JD (relationship with agri 86 about completely broken) but somehow it does just feel a bit cheaper.

The one at Ricards has been there a few weeks, one of the few things in their yard that isn’t a trade in from us😂

The proximity to a dealer and their backup is surely also a consideration.

Absolutely.
Towards being the final straw with my JD dealer. They are 26 miles away. A sensor went in the back axle making the tractor think the handbrake was on so not move. Due to cab suspension it wasn’t possible to change the sensor on farm and the mechanic could make it move on limp mode. He told my wife to tell me to drive it to their yard. I didn’t even try it before I set off.
Max speed (at full engine revs) 8kph, yes 5mph. 5 hours spent on dead straight (Roman) main roads watching lorries storming up behind me. Well, I did most of the drive in ditches as it just wasn’t safe, what dealer would suggest such a thing, rather than send a lorry?

Yes that does sound a bit like you would become an accident or murder victim quite quickly.

A dilemma can be had between choosing a Fendt or a John Deere or a Valtra, for example, but for buying a Kubota ... I do not understand, I only know 2 units of Kubota bought new and both have been sold very soon.
Without believing in absolute truths, by 2020 any European farmer should already have an established and experienced criterion on machinery brands

Now your prices for stuff make sense! I forgot you live in France 🇫🇷. I would avoid the Kubota. In my opinion they are ok for the stockman tractor like @le bon paysan has but the bigger ones are too unproven in resale to be able to risk that sort of investment, it’s not even as if the ZF transmission (John Deere and Deutz) is known to be bullet proof. Once the warranty is up you could be stuck with it and it be costing you big money.

We've got 3 M7s, a GX 135, an 8540, and 3 M5000 Kubotas. Very reliable, and good on fuel. 5 year / 5000 hour warranties, but you hardly need it. As said proven ZF transaxles on the big ones, and bombproof torquey 6.1 litre 4 cylinder engines, very competavely priced. Cabs as good as any make. Buy and forget as far as I'm concerned.

Everyone seems to disagree, but have they actually run them or do they have a mate of a mate that saw one broke down once? :nailbiting:

Done nearly 6000 hours with an animal stockman on it, so not doing bad. Biggest problem has been a bit of overheating due to working in a lot in dust. OK if you keep the radiators clear. Worst thing about it is that it makes a loud beep everytime you change gear, nothing a set of wire cutters can't cure!
