Dogs££££££

One of the neighbours has sold 10 lab pups for £1000 each and had a mate called in to see us yesterday had two beagle type dogs pupped sold 2 litters 16k. He reckons everyone has been wanting a dog but the jobs cooled off a touch now

Depends where you buy them from, most reputable breeders are still at pre Covid prices and are more interested in the home they will go to than the cash. If you buy your dog off pets for home or FB your the fool, contact an KC assured council registered breeder and get a bit of quality with a sensible price.

I've been saying this for years. £100 per dog per year consequent to getting signed off at an annual vet check-up. Vet can also check the microchip details and third-party insurance is up-to-date.
Yep and the right for the veterinarian to refuse continued ownership if the animal is clinicaly obese ..............

Do dogs grieve?
We always have 3/4 working dogs here and they do grieve massively when 1 dies unexpectedly, usually for a few weeks too. The last one that died had been getting slower and slower for a few months but could still jump on the quad etc, when her eyesight and balance eventually gave in and she was put to sleep the others never grieved as if they knew it was for the best..

Had two collies in a row, along with spaniels. Both of them, despite lots of socialisation have been very antisocial! So wife didn't want another one as they were both nippy, guard dog types, no matter what you tried with them. Both were perfect,y fine with people they knew but were excellent guard dogs, hence wanting a spaniel as I'd rather have some friends left!

A month ago, We had 4 dogs. The old one died (13 years) no problem. Then the 2 youngest were stolen & the 1 left is very subdued.
On the day they were stolen, a bitch & her litter were taken & 2 other dogs from the village.
A van was stopped near Cheltenham on its way to Durham with in 40 stolen dogs (not ours).

Yes, especially if they're left as the only dog in the household.

Have you tried a breed-specific rescue charity? Some of the larger rescue charities (Dogs Trust, RSPCA, Blue Cross, and the like) are useless for rehoming if you have a normal active life, kids, and/or another dogs.

Totally agree with your comment on the Charities. Herself wants another terrier, but reckoned that as we dont live in town with a secure garden, there is no way we'd get a rescue (if we even found one!)... Did hear of outfit that refused a Farmer a spaniel, as he wanted a gundog!!

Present Mrs C is a registered Lab breeder. Only one litter every other year from a bitch, but we have regular inquiries for pups. Not having a good year so far, best bitch had just one puppy and that was by Cesarean..☹. There is detailed questioning of prospective dog owners, regarding how they will look after the dog, e.g. not being left alone all day, and registering with a vet practice etc. So we do 'politely' have to turn folks away. Sadly puppy farms exist simply because of the demand from people who don't know any better.

I know someone who runs a van service taking "British food" to expats living in Greece. On the return trip he fills the van with stray dogs which he brings to a dog rescue charity here. I've also heard of people rescuing strays in Thailand, Bulgaria and other places and flying them back here. Hopefully the reduction in air travel due to Covid has reduced that trade. We must be mad to allow all these potentially diseased strays into the country. Maybe they have veterinary papers, but having experienced quality certification in other countries, I wouldn't trust their certificates to be worth the paper they are printed on.
