Edit....slightly off topic but I remember being at the Yorkshire Show with this old guy........

...he was a shepherd, called Walter, for somebody south of Lincoln. It was in the era of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, when long hair for teenagers was just becoming 'a thing'.

Half a dozen young people, with shoulder length hair, walked through the sheep lines. "Dang it," he said, in his broad South Lincolnshire drawl, "I've a job to tell if they're heeders or sheeders nowadays." :playful: :playful:

Ewe lambs from birth to 31 December
Ewe hoggs from 1 January until clipped
Gimmers from clipping until they spane first crop of lambs

Pretty much the same here.
Lambs until Chistmas
Hoggs until the tup goes on them
Gimmers until they lamb

Still not worked out what to call those that lamb at 12m old - hoggs with lambs or something. Not gimmers, they never get a chance to be gimmers.

Brought the gimmer lambs home to run through the foot bath, scold is a bloody nightmare this year. Anyone else having problems with it?.
