Companies won't take cash?

Everyone seems to be implying on here that card, BACS is better, however that disenfranchises the marginalised in society who may not have access to either, so even if I ignored all my other arguments against getting rid of cash, that reason alone would be enough to persuade me that continuing with cash payments is important.
I know a couple of people who refuse to have bank accounts after being completely screwed over by banks and accountants. Always remember the numerous times the banks IT systems break down and people can’t access their accounts, transfer money or pay by card / phone etc. Cash is still king and will be for a long time yet imho.

Does anyone really carry cash though. I use my phone for pretty much everything from a coffee to a new combine belt

I cannot actually remember the last time I handed over real money, maybe for an Ice cream at the coast

I know far more people who use cash than cards and still are irrelevant of corona.

But then he'd be entitled to stick his finger up one of your nostrils and have it away with your wife. It's an ancient law which has never been repealed.

:ROFLMAO:

Good job I don’t visit the Highlands too often then!
I could cite anti Welsh discrimination if I waited for the plod to roll up; but I wouldn’t do that to a fellow Celt.

PS Don’t think I have ever, ever before heard of a Scotsman refusing money! Are you sure you are Scottish?

Always happy to do business and take money off people, but not when the force their terms on me. Cash is a pest - needs a special trip to bank, costs money to pay in etc. BACS is free for both parties, has no risk of getting the notes stolen from the premises or of them being fakes - it's just better all around.

Intolerant or pragmatic? The cost of using cash or cheques is high, to all concerned, the buyer, the seller, the banks and the exchequer, the sooner we have a cashless society the better, for all concerned.
Getting rid of cash would wipe out stacks of illegal activities over night most likely.

Unlikely, criminals will find a way, be that bitcoin or dollars or gold etc. cash only has value because the people involed in the transaction value it. If they didn't value cash, they may value something else.

So we ban cash, how are you going to get your luck money at the market?

Dad used to say "don't like these credit cards, they'll get folks in trouble, If I've got cash in my pocket I can spend some, if I haven't I can't' that's better than any statement on paper"

does everyone pay tax on “luck money” ?

truth is thats thats the real issure - people who like cash dont seem to like paying their taxes

there is no real place for cash these days if we are all honest aboot it

in my families business i totally see the great advantages that online banking give, you can check the status of your accounts anytime, print off bank statments, remember when they used to be posted and could get into others hands ? The messing about with cheques and then they wouldnt clear and come back with letter to say it had tobe represented? now none of that ? 99.9 percent of all our payments either being paid or making a payment are done by BACS, so much more easier and you can see when the money comes into your account, one example, i sold a mixing machine last year agreed a price of £1200, didnt know the person from adam? he wanted to pick it up, good i said , wanted to pay by cheque, i said id rather be paid by BACS gave bank details and saw the money go into my account before machine left my Yard?

It’s happened 3 times with RBS while I banked with them in about 5 years, including weeks of not being able to log onto online banking, pay with debit / credit cards, transfer money or make BACS payments etc.

you can’t pay big bills with cash ? do you stuff envelopes and post remittances? would that be safe / secure ?

ive never had an issue accessing my bank, that lasted more than a few hours I have a couple of accounts witn different banks which would go a fair way towards mitigation of one having a problem
