So in the interests of shaving 20 minutes of London to Birmingham in the useless HS2 scheme, a 300 year old oak is chopped down for a service road.

If we did this on our farms, the place would be swarming with hi viz and lanyards but it’s ok for Government to ride roughshod over all?

Agriculture is an easy target, someone was on about hedges being ripped up by farmers earlier in the year. The only ones being ripped up are as another 20acres goes to houses but that’s ok.

Same with this so what the hell they like and I am sure someone will blame us for cutting it down

It's the hypocracy of the job , dont cut an hedge a dayout of "season" , fines and penalties if caught , but wop all these historic oaks out as you like for a tin pot Chinese white elephant railway

Even I won’t fell a 300 year old oak that regularly blocks our drain junctions with root fibres.
I fully agree hs2 is vandalism on a massive scale. If it was for something essential it would be different but travelling around to excess is so last century.

Whenever Swampy and co try to do anything about it you all call them a bunch of unwashed lentil knitters standing in the way of progress.
It's like all this stuff about "we have the best animal welfare standards in the world". Yes you do, but why ? Because you asked for them ? Or because the hippy sh!ts pushed to make it so ?

Actually we personally have the best animal standards because we aren’t cruel barstewards. Nothing to do with pressure groups, government legislation or anything outside of this farm.

Actually that's not strictly true: If it wasn't for national legislation you would find it very difficult if not impossible to economically produce anything to your own personal high standards.

Good job you're not around here... the estate felled 40 old oaks back in April. They were all 250+ yr old and chosen as potential to cause damage if they lost limbs or fell in storms.

Sad to see them fall - but a sight, at the same time. But I'd much rather a grand tree like those felled and the wood used, before they are brought down and destroyed in a storm

I agree it’s sacrilege but governments have always done such things and always will. I’m sure a lot were felled when the original railway network was built. Doesn’t make it right though when we are constantly spied on for such actions.

Who’s gone and planted oak in their fields recently? Got to have young oaks first.
Personally I find it sad that the estate at home don’t cut a few down to mill instead of leaving them to fall over and rot for the insects (there’s tons of branches and other trees for them to eat)
