How well can sheepdogs stand the cold ?

I’ve got a sheep dog that lives in a barn in a kennel , it’s pretty draught proof but I do worry it’s cold at times. 800ft above sea level. She’s a kelpie/collie

Dry with no wind and it’ll be fine no matter what the Outside temperature is

I rememberWith the beast of the east a few year ago first thing I did one morning was panic about the dogs and they where all fine

They are like livestock, as long as they can lie dry with a full belly they will be fine. If they are kenneled they will develop a thicker coat than an indoor dog and consequently won't feel the cold as much out and about working.I always do main feed when they are finished for the day.

We used to have a collie that slept outside in all weather's except rain, she would regularly sleep out into the snow and would be total covered by it, just a hump in the yard.
One of current collies will sleep on the wall next to the house in the rain!! Doesn't seem to bother her!
They do have a shed which we shut them in at night.

Pretty much as above but I will say they will aclimatise to the ambient temperature and do not like frequent fluctuations.

My Swedish kannel maid said her 'eskimo' dogs back home would sleep in the snow rather than their kennels. If she was worried about them, she'd tap on the kitchen window and their heads would pop up out of the level blanket of snow, wondering why they were being disturbed! A small box with a bed of straw over an insulated base is ideal. If the floor of the kenel is not insulated, dampness will condense beneath the bed making it cold.
