Beginners guide to guidance

Been reading some interesting threads about diy guidance systems and AgOpenGPS but I'm a complete novice and some of its like reading a foreign language. As a starting point I think I need to find out what the components of a guidance system are and how they work. Anyone found any useful tutorials or threads they could post links for?

How come Trimble would help with AOG when we need the AOG forum to get help for many Trimble related questions (like compatibility with other brands)?

The AOG wiki is quite outdated unfortunately:

You read relevant topics from their discussion forum:

and ask questions here or there.

That's what I was looking for. I've seen reference to the wiki page but couldn't find it.

Not yet sure if the AOG route is within my capabilities, but it seems a good place start. Even if I decide to buy some or all of the system "off the shelf" then at least I'll have an understanding of how it works.

I use AOG with a cheap windows tablet (linx 1010) and a usb gps receiver on eBay that was about £20. It's not the most accurate by a long way, but better than a phone app. It depends what you want to do with it and the accuracy you need. I'd like to build a better system, but I only really use it as a record of what I did when spreading dung, and a bit of fertiliser on grassland.
