We had a half tonne front tank df1, peas were a lot cheaper in 1 ton bags, so nose upto tote bin open bag fill df1 and tote in one go

Tote now has a second life next to incinerator as an ash bin, metal lid added and new hole on the side

Winter barley Seed I bought was £400/t.

Seed out pile £180/t. That's being generous feed was £120/t.

So £220/t for convenience of it being delivered in a bag?

No thanks.

We have had this auger for 25 yrs or more, can't remember what make it is now. Dad used to use it filling a 4 metre MF 30 drill & it is now used to fill a 3 metre Accord/Kuhn combination. We used to take it off the Teagle Titan trailer, which is now 45 years old, for harvest but now have other slightly newer trailers so it stays on permanently

Is there a small lift able hopper for avadex or similar??
I have avadex applicator high up on the drill and it’s a bit of a balancing act while hand balling 25 bags. I was thinking of filling a container in the store and then dropping in the drill with the loader.
I hate seed corn in bags also. Overwintered seed bags have sprung leaks and gained unwanted furry nests during the winter. Various YouTube American farms seem to have permanent outdoor silos just for seed prior to unloading into their drill filler trailers.
Also they seem to be able to tow so much more weight behind their trucks whereas we are limited to 3.5t or have to tie up a tractor.

I had a plan to turn a grain trailer body 180 degrees and make it pivot at the ffront, and lay an auger along the floor, sticking out the back.
It could be tipped up and left all day without a tractor attached

How do you open the auger out, I have got 1 and wondering how to fit it/operate it?
It would be best lowered backwards to fold out?
But with 1 winch what controls which way the auger lowers (sideways or backwards?)
Is the wire on the bottom half?(top of it)

Its fairly easy to unfold, I unclip it near where it pivots on the trailer, lower down on the winch to horizontal & unfold the top half & clip it to the bottom half. Then winch it back up to the required height, this does vary as you tip the trailer up as the trailer empties. It swings around the pivot, so side to side when tipped up which was useful when Dad used it on a 4m MF 30 drill. Now I use it for a 3m Kuhn/Accord combo so don't need to swing it about much. I can do all this easily single handed as I have a paralysed left arm & hand so can only use my right arm & hand.

When you lower it down to horizontal to fold it out, is this to the side or backwards?

I'm going to use it on a mixer wagon to unload rolled barley diet into beef hoppers so tipping no issue but I need a holding capacity at base of auger as mixer pushes grain out each rotation current one is a little slow as runs out of grain before next sweep.
For this reason I was going to lean auger backwards quite a lot. It's a 16ft auger going into 10ft high bins

I lower it down backwards as then you just swing the top half around,if you lower it to the side you have to lift the top half up & over vertical which is possible with 2 hands but it's a lot easier not to fight gravity by doing it the other way.

That's what I was planning. Just needed the clarification.
Will it hold in a 45 degree backwards and 45 degree sideways position? Or do you pin/peg one movement?
