Red Tractor Chair sells out all members

I agree with you but that virtuous circle AHDB has an "idea" or get consulted, Red Tractor adopts it and the NFU sit by and spout that RT is an essential minimum standard. I could say a lot more from the day job but it wouldn't be appropriate

There's no "but" about it!

Red Tractor are just looking after themselves. They don't care about things on an individual farm level, they're not that bothered about standards either unless it bring income for them. This is business. I don't see what any is surprised about

Precisely. It’s businesses and vested interests looking after themselves.
I’d scrap RT and just stick a Union Jack or your national flag on your produce. Then let the people decide. We work to UK regs whether we are in RT or not, so it’s a superfluous distraction if it has no brand power.
If RT disappeared tomorrow would anybody buf tge NFU and those who work for it miss it? If the public really don’t recognise it or know about it or trust it then it’s useless.

Everyone we have spoken to today says Lucy Neville-Rolfe's position as Red Tractor chair is untenable, although whether she resigns or not is of course another matter.

I wouldn't usually post a link to our Farmers Weekly podcast on the Farming Forum (admin, please remove if me doing so is inappropriate) but it's our top story and has generated a lot of interest.

Thankyou for your post!
Unfortunately she won't resign without a huge payoff package and the offer of a position on another quango .
I see the Gvt are setting up a TB panel and advertising for people to take up a place on the board ......watch this space !!!!!!

Of course they won't sort it. This has been the direction of travel for 20 years. They think there is nothing to sort. Their raison d'etre is that all food is somehow not up to standard until it has been inspected and ticked. Assurance is a growth industry, they sponsor the FW awards etc. Its all integrated now and its what your NFU wanted.

I don't know what anyone is surprised about? They don't give a toss about farms, they have a "brand" and all they want and need to do is protect their brand. There is no accountability and thats the point of it all.

The contempt this woman has shown to our industry is beyond the pale , hopefully Farmers Weekly will press this matter until the correct result is obtained

So 6 pages in and what will change ?

nothing ! We will all keep paying to get a meaningless sticker

why ?

Because it’s a protection racket we have to pay if we want to sell our produce !

@Guy Smith can you really be part of this ? It’s a parasite on the back of decent, hard working farmers struggling to keep their business and earn an honest living. For Christ sake do your job and actually represent farmers for once, if the Chair will not resign I suggest the entire board should !

:D :D :D ...i'm sorry but this is so funny:D:D:D....i changed my farming 'system' to get out of RT i hated it so much:D:D:D

the good baroness will likely get her minions to spout ...'farm assurance is even more important now to distinguish it from sub standard imports':D:D:D

feck sake you lot...get out;)

it impossible for business like mine to get out, I can not easily sell my produce without their permissio. Many similar farm business in the same situation

the very definition of a protection racket

Thanks for posting Johan. I suppose Ms Rolfes position is somewhat similar to the predicament Mr Cummings found himself in on his visit to Barnard Castle. He didn't do the decent thing and i am sorry to say I doubt Ms Rolfe will either. But the depth of feeling across the farming community and all the Whats App groups that i am part of is quite astonishing. Ms Rolfe has lost completely any confidence she had from farmers and RT members.
RT was fighting a losing battle of confidence with many grass root farmers and that will only increase when the new standards are announced. Anything less than her removal as Chair will be seen as weakness by members. Lets see if the AFS Board and Mr Mosely have what it takes to show her the door.

I agree with your sentiment but the analogy was poor , Cummings misdemeanour is insignificant to this womans actions
