Browns Juggler - a brilliant machine and a great company to deal with.

I was hoping you would offer input as I kinda had your design in mind when I set about making a copy of my Cook's sledge front end to fit the juggler. Yes folks, no sledges were harmed during the making of this Cooks Juggler as it will now be known.

So I'd like to thank you personally for giving me the inspiration to have a go and an idea to start with making it trailed. Now it can be mounted behind most inline balers as they are mainly fitted with a drawbar or any balers with a hitch. As opposed to having the Brown's specific brackets. Never mind the fact it floats over the bumps and doesn't flex the chamber in the same way as being fixed.

We like to bale Haylage heavy so the advice about the bale weight and key way failure has been noted. I'm wondering if the slippery phenolic ply we have used may help here. It is currently able

Had you seen my conversion before?
The jugglers original ply floor was heavily varnished - several mm thick to give a polished surface

Yeah, on a thread in Classic tractor section, I could just about make out the Cooks front end in the picture. It was the only thing I had to go off, along with some of my own design and a sledge of my own to copy. But the slope into the juggler is uphill rather than down hill into the sledge. To get the jockey wheel at the right height for the sledge to slit level/slightly lean back.

I don't know if this is of any interest but my father Edward Gowing designed this machine. I remember him working away on model designs in his shed for hours. He built the machines himself, for Browns and later worked for Warwick Brothers. When he passed away a couple of years ago i rescued many documents and films of the prototypes in test, I even have copies of his original contracts with Browns. I'll have the 8mm films digitised and these may be of interest to someone.

You should start your own thread, I reckon there will be plenty of interest!

I think you may be right, having looked back over it today I see films both in the field and at the Smithfield show, letters, drawings, user and maintenance manual etc. and a a lot of photos. Most interesting to me is the first letter in reply from Browns stating their interest and arranging a visit to our home!

Would be very interested , we had an early model. The problem all those flat 8 machines had were regular bale size.

We had 3 different ones .the first was blue and had the trip for the side to side arm mounted on top .the second was orange with the trip sticking up from the floor. It was better but hadent much clearance between the chassis and the moving floor bars at the front .if the bars collected any loose straw it would jamb as it came round the front.the third one was identical but had more clearance so it couldn’t jamb.we got on well with it and only sold it last year
