Cow brushes and tail paint

Hi all,

I’m looking at installing a rotating cow brush in the yard. We use tail paint for heat detection and was wondering does this make a brush a no go? I was hoping there’d be a vertical brush on the market but most seem to be horizontal or pendualum types. Does anyone have any experience with paint and brushes?

We have two swinging brushes from dairy spares, they have stops in them to stop them riding over the cow, they were recommended by genus, they are pretty good and dont rub much chalk off, we are on rms

Awesome, will look at these for sure, I block calve so am only using AI for 6 weeks then bulls in so could in theory take it down/block if off for them 6 weeks, there’s a huge difference in price between them, been quoted from £975-£1950 today! Can you buy direct from dairy spares do you know?

We did, I think the block is part of the frame.

Been a while since you posted this but would you have any photos of the brush or a video of it running and not rubbing off the tail paint?
Cheers

I have had a cowcare Gimbal brush for 12 months now , no issue with RMS at all , in fact the genus rep now sells their version to RMS farms because it worked so well here . You just have to make sure the height is right , if it does get uo on to the topline of their back it just rolls itself off without scrubbing paint

You can see the stops to prevent the brush running too high.

I just take the brush head off and turn it off while I’m serving to AI, I’ve obviously improved since 2017 as I put the bulls in at 4 weeks now, mines a Storth brush and has no stops as above so would run up onto their backs.

Ah I see what you mean. Still no issues with the brush and RMS 3 years later?
Any chance you could send a video so I could work on convincing the old man?
yes brushes still working fine, you will get the odd persistant offender who manages to rub the chalk but not many, as has been said brush height also plays a big part. I like the look of the Fairfield supplies vertical wall mounted roller brush.
