Which tractor is the most driver friendly for a 14hr + day?

In the case of the Fast Track,it is regulatory matter. The fast track ,with its truck type directly linked steering ,independent suspension and , yes , the way the doors open are all related to it being the only tractor that meets the legal regulations to operate at the speeds it achieves as all the regulations pertain to its HGV style design.

4000 series doesn’t have linked steering.

Tractor designers etc may drive preproduction tractors around simulated rough tracks, but I am sure they dont mimic how rough many uk country lanes are especially if one has to pull over and then drive into a few deep roadside grips with a very heavy implement etc on the 3point linkage or a loaded up 14tonne trailer on the auto hitch!!!!!

Think this whole idea about designers don’t drive machines is wrong. Father had a jcb fastrac for 6 months. This was two years before it came out officially . Mate who I was a student with is a chief designer for JCB Agri.

I still don’t think the modern tractor is designed around the operator. Take a car, you are all stretched out laying well back, looking straight ahead.. tractor is too upright with limited scope to stretch your legs out and half the time twisted round 180 degrees. Pretty poor.. I’d be looking for luxury car levels of seating, full legroom at all times and a Complete rotating Console like the pfanzelt forestry tractor or rotating cab. full suspension is essential but I reckon the fastrac 4220 is still too noisy at road speed. That applies to the 724 as well. So still plenty of improvements to be made overall.

I have a 6250r, ride is too bouncy, screen short cut buttons have a joystick in the way, screen doesn’t move enough it has the world’s worse cup holder. A £150k tractor and they can’t put a dab radio in it. And even more annoying every time and I really mean every time you try to hitch some thing on and lean out of the cab rear window it cuts the drive.

On a positive note I have just had a set of fuel filters last 500 hours the longest in 3300 hours of ownership. 750 hour services no @##$ way

I forgot to add who on earth decided the random positions of the spool buttons on the arm rest?

Had a couple of hire spreaders in last week, they had a hydraulic trap door in case it blocked. Conversation between me and brother about the other driver was something like

“We don’t want him opening the trap Door by mistake”

“Don’t worry I’ll plug it in the 4th spool he will never work out how to use that”

A classic example of how things have become far too complicated. As I have to drive a desk more than I used to, my ability to train occasional new operators is reducing. All spool valves need is a lever that has push pull and float, a latch to hold it in pump or float, and a dial for flow. No need to be able to control the blue spool with the yellow lever (or whatever)

Telehandlers are a case in point. By nature, they are often multi driver, communal machines. They need to go forward, back, left and right. No need for umpteen transmission settings and auto functions. Fiddlable things get fiddled with and break down.
We demo'd the new Manitou pivot steer tele earlier this year. WTF is that all about? Lets just say we all preferred the simplicity of the TM320s JCB. Yes I'm getting old!!

I can see what you’re saying. I’ve just deliberately specced our new 6r to tidy it all up a bit. No premium front linkage and 5 spools so I don’t have to keep turning taps. It’ll leave the front linkage Control (spool 1) next to the rear linkage Switch So they’re together. Front spool is T’d to spool 2, so when I’m mowing 2 is front mower lift and 3 is rear mower lift, again the switches on the same bank.

Added bonus of not having to save the joystick settings every time the tractor is started. It wouldnt suit everyone but I’m really not a fan of having re configurable buttons all wrapped around a joystick. With this setup everything will be where it belongs and anyone who jumps on will be able to work it out.

Compare that to say a 6910. Anybody who's driven a tractor since 1970 could operate a 6910.
That 6250 is like the starship enterprise - and that's before you turn the screen on. Far too many miscellaneous buttons.

Compared to toggling around the left hand screen on a 7400 Massey this is a breeze. To change for example a PTO setting- you hit the button with a picture of a PTO.

Why would you use the lh screen on a 7400 to do anything with the pto? All the speeds are on the pad to your right, auto button to stop & start the pto when the linkage is raised & lowered is next to the big yellow on/off button. Easy peasy

I was using that as an example. Our old one didn’t have a right hand screen. Everything was done in that tiny little Screen controlled with a blister pad. Transmission droop settings, spool settings etc. It was a nightmare.

Hard to beat CommandArm, no need for a joystick with that set up(y)

Why in the fudge does the JD not have a proper and dedicated front linkage switch? It's about time.
