Some folks are total pricks with their dogs but I've just learned the other side of it.

Had the dogs out shifting and fetching lambs in. They were with me as the lambs went into the shed, I shut the gate and turned round and both were gone! The bitch can be bad for having a go at things so like to put her on the chain if she's not with me... whistled and called but no sign of either. Brother and dad were floating about so didn't think too much of it

Phone call 30mins later they were down below the treeline bothering the next nearest farm with sheep :X3: 1 ewe laid out pegging but she seemed to be OK. Another away from the rest with a bloody face.

Neighbour was ok about it, but we will wait and see if it affects his scanning :(

For a working dog that is a mortal sin in my book.

Ive been there too, got a youngish dog to take make life abit easier for my owd dog who was feeling is age, was hoping he'd tack over, had him working in the pens, only took a few seconds and the damage it did was unbelievable, it had a tablet, could never trust it again,
0wd boy did a bit longer till he retired then passed peaceful at the vets.

Funny out you miss um😥

Been without since I got the pup

If a neighbours dog come and worried my sheep, I wouldn’t be impressed that he was intending on training that fault out. I would insist on any dog worrying my sheep was destroyed neighbour or not and I would show the neighbour the same courtesy if one of mine did the same to his sheep. If a walkers dog attacked my sheep and told me it just needed a bit more training I think he would be getting a polite word in his ear.

I'm not on any high horse.
Having a dog that comes to you when called has to be the most fundamental rules in the relationship between you and the dog, and yes you are correct that could happen to any of us. If I had a dog that cleared, wouldn't come back and then proceeded to hunt neighbours sheep on its own I assure you it wouldn't do it again.

You said you called and whistled and they didn't come, you already have an issue.

If they can't hear you they can't come....

However wondering of that far is an issue.

With a dog only months old or little experience, wouldn't put it down straight away. Invest some time and most of the time will turn out just fine. If we all put the dogs down that did not do everythinh right every day, no one would have a dog...

Where did I say they wouldn't come back?

I said I called. I also said my dad and brother were working at the other end of the steading... it's very common for them to go and see what they are doing. It wasn't out of the ordinary.

Where did I say they wouldn't come when called?

When I got the phonecall - the bitch was sat on my neighbours bike. He showed up and they came over straight away. He actually commented she is a nice dog. My old boy doesn't ride on the bike, but he was laying beside it when I showed up.

I'm pee'd off they slipped yes. And very sad at the outcome - if there's any knock on, I will compensate. I don't let them off at the same time unless we are away on a big job. This has cured her issues. She's off, sat at the door currently. I'm looking right at her.

She's a young, keen dog. She needs taught, not shot.
