Hi,

Got an old petit 3 ton tipper trailer i am going to restore, it still has the original wooden sides and floor which are in very good order. Whats the best thing to treat it with to both preserve it and make it look good?

Thanks

Creosote is horrible stuff in some respects.

If you can get it in big enough quantities, linseed oil and do it more often.

Used to be able to get 5 gallon drums of it yrs ago.

Not so thin for spraying tho as in applying up underneath .

Creosote every time. I buy 40 litres of black from Ernie Doe and it's lovely for barns, but you might like a lighter shade for a trailer.
As Hilly says, varnish is fine for something that won't get work and lives inside but if it gets scratched and water gets under, it looks awful.

I've bought a few lots of this, think it's the old fashioned stuff, very dark brown/black in colour.

PS Re the original poster, I did an old trailer up about 10 years ago and treated the sides and (new) plywood floor with creosote, this is how it looked just after being done. I suspect I didn't use "proper" creosote though, more likely Bartoline?
