Are any TFF members neighbours of Sarah Beenys house?

Bruton is getting fashionable as a quirky sort of place. I always thought it payed second fiddle to Castle Cary with the railway line and the Georgian fronted houses. Bruton isn't Bohemian like Glastonbury or Wells but it's a nice enough place and the countryside East towards the Brewhams (Godminster cheese etc) is lovely and unspoilt. Still a lot of cows down that way thank goodness

As for Sarah Beeny, live and let live. The land won't disappear and they will either farm it with help or contract out

I have no knowledge of her planning history nor could I care less. The thing that pees me off is jealousy and the unjustified personal attacks on her integrity.

Instead of jealousy and personal attacks, maybe some should go onto the planning website and read the planning officers report, which will make the reasoning clear.

The same thing happens if a farmer wins prizes for his stock, purchases a new tractor or land, there's always someone to put him/her down.

Success via hard work attracts jealousy and back biting within agricultural circles unfortunately.
Think you have gone off at a "Tangent "?
We can only comment on the tv programme and what it portrays.
Think most don't give a monkey's about who ,what or what ever they are ,do or are going to do it's the bureaucracy, system and gaping blackhole results that are a true eye opener and possibilities.

Castle Cary is much nicer although it does have a healthy weekender element. The country south of Bruton is as pleasant as anywhere. Mrs Beeny is sandwiched between two billionaires east and west. The Art Dealer who has helped put Bruton on the map also owns land north and south of her. He is a nice chap and has done much for the local area. There is also a few other well known individuals in that area to keep her company. Quite why non farmers buying land upsets some people is beyond me. If you've got it, do what you want with it.

We are only commenting on what we see and what we are shown on the TV show.
We have NO clue of any property History other than vague bits here and there.
Obviously you know better that all has been submitted and inspected correctly ?
On face value it looks like pushing the standard boundaries most fail on due to Government, Regional and Local Authority Policies and attitudes etc etc.
All the best to them and Hopefully more can do the same if so desired .
We can only presume that they have got the relevant planning permission for the property and had all the building materials passed by building control/planners . If they haven’t and just set off and built a house on a green field site or had it passed then built it from unapproved materials it would seam daft to then go on TV and advertise it .

We would all love too but in essence 99% of the time planners and Local Authorities object and this is the main points of conversation.

I know a farmer that bought some suckler cows with the aim of getting planning permission on land he owns for a worker’s cottage . He’s got the permission for a house it’s probably got an ag tie on it . He no longer has any staff or cows . He’s dug some foundations to keep the planning. I’m assuming it’s for when he gives up his tenancy on his rented farm then he could build it to move into . He also could just sell the land with the planning it would increase the value. Not sure how much land he as but it’s between 30 and 100 acres.

That's been done here too. Bought a farm, sold off the house and old buildings and lived in some sort of barn (which is now a holiday let). Set up free range egg unit, borrowed some calves and got pp for a farm house. Calves went and after a couple of years the hens went too. I have to admit that it is a lovely house, one of the best modern houses I have ever seen and went in once.

Trying to remember the name of the at dealer . Age (on my part). I was down there in area (West of there) in the early 80's. My Ex went to Sexeys

Castel Cary has a more golden Hamstone for it's vernacular architecture compared with neighbouring Bruton too

Liked Frome and surroundings too. You can keep Shepton Mallet !

My parents live North of the Mendips. I much prefer anywhere South of Wraxall Hill !

Used to know a livestock haulier Lawson Body at Woolston and that little area by Cadbury Castle towards Stoke Trister is lovely too.

Always loved my journeys up that first bit of the 303 to Wylye crossroads and also the short cut down the Teffont Valley towards Southampton

I thought the old house was pretty good! Had nice views too, but I guess it was a bit of a mish-mash and there was already planning permission for a replacement. So they moved the planning permission to another field, and houses of "exceptional merit" are allowed. I know a new house near here that was built using exactly the same argument, so it is an acceptable thing to do, but you have to present the correct arguments.

A new house has to be built to be energy efficient, so that is why it was built using the "lego" blocks and it looks like cotswold stone dressing. I don't like it all that much really, it is a copy of an old style, so I suppose the planners thought that it would fit into the landscape better than a very modern design (which I would personally go for). I agree that the timber extensions look a bit odd.

I though the farm buildings all looked pretty good too. It is her money, they bought the farm which was presumably on the open market and they have built themselves a new farmhouse. I hope they all enjoy it and settle into their new life happily.

People should be strung up for that it stops the legitimate cases getting through. They should just leave a penalty clause in it for its lifetime, like self build exemptions but longer.

Iwan Wirth. Nice chap. Where were you in the early 80's? Ah yes, Sexey's School on Lusty Hill!

Cary would have stone from Hadspen quarry I think. Just up the road. I'm surprised Mrs Beeny didn't use it to keep it local.

Frome is nice. More listed buildings than Bath. Shepton has nice bits tucked away but yes, seems to be in decline. That said it has the best little greasy spoon around.

South of Wraxall is nice (it's where I now live). Good wine from the vineyard there and Barber's cheese next door.

Do they make Godminster Cheese actually at Godminster Manor or somewhere else?

I married a girl from Bower Hinton, Martock and lived there and the next village and then just over the Dorset border near Sherborne before moving to the Oxfordshire Cotswolds

I believe it's made by Wyke or Alvis then formed and waxed by Ashley Chase.

I'm somewhat behind watching the series, but have just winced through the episode where they trashed the field by attempting groundworks in inappropriate conditions. All the while the narrator was having digs at farming. They made 2 laboured points about removing soil from truffles and guts from fish to avoid bacteria, but the nasty farmers had reduced owl populations by stopping them eating grain from barns. Nothing to do with keeping assorted bacteria-filled crap out of the food chain?

And people on thread are wondering why there might be some hostility on a farming forum???

Since when do owls eat grain from barns ffs?
