Valtra v John Deere

The dealers turn a blind eye around here, as it doesn’t show up apparently. Just don’t take the p**s but another 20hp will never stress anything on an owner driven tractor. I wouldn’t worry about weight as it’s easy added, we filled the back tyres with water on our Fendt as it was so light on the backend but jd are heavier so I don’t think you will have any bother.
A 6120m is a grand tractor but it will be on its limit with the cooling pack being crammed in .Definitely not one to chip or remap...

I just checked the specs of both tractors , the JD is 5200 kg , valtra is 6200 kg. The valtra shuttle is far nicer to work for loader work, the spools on the joystick are very easy to use on the valtra. The valtra has far better visibility too. The valtra now have two seperate oil tanks which long term is a great saving for the tractor. I’m running valtras for 25 years and I’ve yet to see a tractor to beat them, my local valtra dealer has traded in an awful amount of JD tractors lately . One jd was only a year old when it was traded in. Local contractor here was valtra , then went to 4 jds and is now gone back to valtras , says it all really.
and yet jd sell 8 tractors for every valtra in the uk alone......just saying.

R is a very different tractor tbh, ours is about 6.5 tons over the weighbridge considerably heavier than our Fendt and very refined. I haven’t driven a m series but as a more basic tractor you have to be careful your not comparing apples and oranges. Saying that I have no doubt Valtra is a very capable tractor but these things are so bloody expensive nowadays buying something that you don’t like or won’t do your job is an expensive error. I once traded down from a 6210 jd to a 5820 many years ago and whilst on paper the same horsepower the 5820 wasn’t a patch on the 6210 in every area, engine was 2 valve not 4 and gutless and the oil supply was more basic and struggled with one or two of our implements at the time.

Have had a quote for a John Deere 6130 M and a valtra N134
Both have loaders, the valtra has come in a few thousand more than the JD, I would say the valtra is a higher is spec than the JD but not a lot on it...tyre sizes are the same on both machines.
We have never had any other make but JD and I’m nervous of swapping.
Should I be...
@Northeastfarmer short answer is, no, you shouldn't be nervous of swapping!

Mechanically they're every bit as reliable as Deere (though that might not be the best benchmark😳😆).

Valtra has been better designed for loader work with far superior visibility, tighter turning and near ideal weight balance.

Get one out for a demo and make up your own mind. Take it for a spin through your Deere dealers yard when you've got it, if nothing else it might sharpen their pencil a bit 🤣🤣🤣

Had a look at one expecting it to be great but was left disappointed by how short it was and the cooling was my concern cab was pretty dated too .

Vauxhall sell more cars than BMW, which is the best car?

Why not demo each tractor your looking at .
Check out fuel consumption, service cost and usability.

Residual value is very hard to gauge tbh.
Apples and oranges again, Vauxhall sell more than bmw on price alone, spec a tractor between any of the main brands the same and there will be bugger all price difference. Choose which one you prefer to drive as they will all do the job really.

At the end of the day buy whichever one you want. I don't think opinions on here will help much, there don't seem to be any posters with experience running large numbers of multiple brands with any kind of whole life numbers. So it turns into, i run this so its the best type of posts. Everyone's an expert
Don't be too nervous about swapping if that's what you want, Valtra are a major brand after all even if they don't shift the numbers of other brands.
On the other hand there are plenty of Deere's out there that run to high hours with no problems. As ever the operator is a big factor.
Dealer back up and distance from it would be a big part of my thought process.

Have a Valtra 121 here for 8 years, nearly 7000 hrs, and hardly touched it, gone Kubota since as Valtra dealer was only interested in selling Fendt, Valtra's a cracking tractor, still a favourite to jump in, now Kubota dealer has been shafted and lost franchise may well look again.

Has the 6130

we had a jd loader on the last 6130 we had, hated it tbh much preferred the quike we had on the previous tractor. Our loader is on and off like a brides nightie and the jd was an awkward bugger to drop off.
Have the same outfit here and find the loader pretty okay to drop off except sometimes I have to stand on the mudguard to connect the vale pack. Was on the same dilemma with buying the 6130r or a134n and stayed with Deere. It is thirsty enough and engine regenerates frequently enough but It is a very good Tractor The loader is heavy but the Tractor is strong enough to do a job on a light one. When the two prices are the same it is hard to leave the Deere behind you but John Deere as a guy from Missouri said on here recently are a ruthless corporation.
