BUTCHERS HOGGET’S (688);
A decent entry sold on a firm trade. Generally a very mixed sample with a very large proportion of light weight and under finished lambs as demonstrated by the
fact that 20% went for further finishing. Trade would be slightly less than last weeks flyer but still a very firm enquiry. Best lambs would be not much different to a week ago with still plenty at 270p and better.
Heavy lambs seeing a solid trade for the best topping at £151.20. commercial quality lambs generally 15p - 20p back on the week.
Overall average still a very solid 247.7p/kg.
Interesting note from Leek this week about the number of under finished lambs bringing the average down

Some of them have no idea how to draw fat lambs. Was just about too post this... I thought that might be the case this week! People getting too excited and drawing early
Some of them have no idea how to draw fat lambs.
So they should , and they complain about buyers playing games !Some will have idea but think if they take 50 lambs and 10 aren’t fit they’ll mix in with the 40 fit ones.. but most auctions pull them out and pen them separate anyways
Most of what you say is an absolute load of rubbish anyway.
The welch men were buying out of the store markets here 2 months earlier than normal as they couldn’t get lambs down there that they wanted
Obviously there’s more gone than normal

Charge extra commission then they would soon learn to draw lambsSome will have idea but think if they take 50 lambs and 10 aren’t fit they’ll mix in with the 40 fit ones.. but most auctions pull them out and pen them separate anyways
Some don’t know how to draw finished cattle eitherSome of them have no idea how to draw fat lambs.

UK sheep flock numbers revised downward | AHDB

Yes we all agree there are more gone than usual, however according to AHDB statistics it is not as great as would have been expected.
Your right !Some don’t know how to draw finished cattle either
Selling ewe lambs ultimately cost s long run , it’s a bit short sighted .I would expect a lot of ewe hoggs have been, or will be, sold fat or store. Which means there will be a temptation this Autumn to keep sound ewes for an extra year.
I seem to remember a hiccup a few years ago around March when the prices were poor due to AHDB references and they reappeared with corrected figures as if nothing had happened. Then prices rocketed for a while. It was the year with the bad winter.Maps

It does if your going to keep them as your replacements. Iv got some home bred lambs that I wouldn’t sell for £150 (and they are not flash sheep) but I would sell mules that I’ve bought in for £125.Selling ewe lambs ultimately cost s long run , it’s a bit short sighted .
Price will draw out a few ewe lambs later on tooI think jds a
1000s of little Cheviot lambs that would normaly be store lambs went on weigh n pay system here , I don’t think lambs will run out they never do but it might be tighter a bit than normal but they will just switch to springers quicker .
Exactly those bought in sheep are different to your own and especially if you are going to sell as shearlings. It does if your going to keep them as your replacements.
