If there's a court case ,parish council meeting minutes say ea told him to get on with it, i think the ea are on a loser here
I'm not sure that's actually what occured or is what is minuted from the minutes I have read. It also doesn't tally with the statements on the parish council website regarding the issue. From what I have read, the EA discussed the works required & stated that it's the responsibility of the landowners and highway authority for the bridge part to maintain the river.

I agree but it all has to be paid for and organised and a standard has got to be agreed on. Not easy with thousands of land owners, different authorities, budgets and compliance costs.
One of those things that sounds simple but if you were given the job of sorting it you'd be tearing your hair out by lunchtime on day one.

If the answer to the nations drainage problems was to flood all of your farm, or have a river detour through your land, you'd say?

Yet if they just let landowners get on with the job there would be less paperwork, less cost, and on top of that more would be achieved.

If the answer to the nations drainage problems were to let people who want to do something to help actually do it.....you’d say...?! Yes please, you’re saving me money and hassle by doing the job for me!

The trouble is that many of the larger water ways are far beyond the abilities of anyone but the largest farmer to manage. Here on our little 20 foot ditch :) the old dear opposite has a huge task removing all the trees damning it. In fact there is not a chance she would do anything being a bunny hugger:)

But ,but where would all the newly released Beavers go?
Perhaps Monty Don(Patron of Hereford wildlife trust) would be kind enough to rehome them in his
large garden and feature them on his TV program.

I thought the main issue with P in water was washing powder & soap etc ?

People poo too. Sewage works in heavy rain makes point source dischsrge to water. Result "it was an act of God, not in any way our underinvested infrastructure owned by overseas pension funds and laden with tax haven debt". Farmer applies sewage sludge to field. It rains and a bit runs into same watercourse due to the same rain. Result "all farmers fault". This is the way it will always work as we are many, weak voices.

The EA and even “some “ TFF members can’t seem to grasp that watercourses etc need to be maintained to allow water to flow at the max flow, if those watercourses are
allowed to silt up there will be “no flow”. :banghead: :banghead::banghead::banghead:
The faster it goes the more it takes with it

Go to 12 minutes 56 secs in this is a 10 minute presentation to Herefordshire Council saying 75% agriculture 25% sewage for River wye . Also as mentioned earlier in this thread and later on in the meeting problems also with Wales having lower septic tank regs and sewage regs than England.

Water was all running very red around here yesterday, obviously due to bad soil erosion but pretty much everywhere is grass. No obvious culprits that I could think of. Not trying to defend the guilty but its not just due to lack of groundcover.
How much ground cover IS there in a typical improved pasture? Often much less than you think.

Might well be, but that's not Legacy P.

I'd be interested in the effect of all the grit used for roads washing into waterways as well, it's becoming an issue in NE USA with plenty of reports done, but don't hear much about it here. Increased salinity and allows mobilisation of heavy metals from soil, plus any sand content increasing P also
