There's a lot of chat from 'those in the know' that the grants will be looked at extremely carefully in the coming years and those who claimed them that really shoudn't have will have their pants pulled down and suitable punishment administered. The 'free money' opportunists may well end up in a whole world of trouble. 'If' you didn't genuinely need the grant...not qualify for...but need... when the massive £ hole caused by corona needs to be refilled, where do we think they will look? I know several who've whacked in for full grant, despite being unaffected at all....fair play, have a go, but if, or when it all goes tits skyward, I'd rather not be one of them.

I just claimed the third grant (didn't claim the second). After two weeks off work at Christmas and then two weeks off to quarantine for covid, cash flow was getting tight and bills needed paying.
Suppose it's the problem with being self employed, you need to be working to generate money.

And any half-cocked fairytales of being affected would easily show under scrutiny and profits... And the unaffected Thick ones spending it thinking it won't show up will be equally transparent.

Worse they will do is ask for it back, interest rates as they are ,they can hardly charge interest on the money! Accountants cannot be too worried, everytime the grant window opens they ring around clients to tell them they are claiming for them. Government would have to spend more than the grants are worth to get it back too with disputes and court cases. Alot of it has been spent and helped the economy so 🤷‍♂️

If it hadnt been for the grants ,,I would have been in the smelly stuff ,,covid has hammered my work ,,when you get builders merchants calling to ask if Ive anything lined up and get told that they have seen a massive decline in materials going out ,it doesnt fill me with confidence that its going to get any better .
Ive lost 50% + profits to covid related problems ,,first 6 weeks when everything was closed and nobody wanted anything doing anyway ,folks not dareing to have work done because their own finances were unsafe .
Then when things did start to get going ,,the 80% jokers had all set up robbing jobs at half the price ,just couldn't compete with them ,,lost sh1t loads them .
I start my first proper job of 21 on monday ,,been nothing since the end of last November .
No fun when bills still need paying .

Accountants shouldn’t be claiming for people . It says that in the terms. They could advise, but you have to claim yourself .

20+ years of the same amount going into the account every 4 months and now nothing since March last year - and not a small amount either. Massively effected me but thankfully high lamb prices have kept me afloat. Rents all still need paying 100%, no leniency on any of them even though asked multiple times.
Main worker (self employed) currently off with Covid during 1 of my busiest periods and I’ve got to self isolate plus do the work of 2 as they can’t come in. They also don’t get paid yet their housemate who is employed in health sector gets full pay 😩

If affected claim it... claim them all. That's what it's there for.

I had the first one as everything ground to a halt, started going again late June / early July and thankfully been busier than ever so not looked at the others.
