Covid jab - is it compulsory?

There’s a load of potential trouble looming with the vaccines. DNA alterations, cell alterations, and more. It’s rushed though as it’s a pandemic which is understandable. The BMA have decided to give it to oldies first as they reckon COVID gives them 20% chance of death which makes any vaccine trouble look a minor issue. They also say a rushed vaccine will do more harm than good and and children shouldn’t have it at any cost.
I’m having it but it’s not straightforward when you look at it all.

Oh dear, I'm sorry, but maybe you've been got at by the antivaxxers without realising.

The vaccine methodology is over a decade old ~ developed to combat MERS and SARS-1. That's why the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines that are being offered during this pandemic could be brought into being so fast as soon as the virus's RNA was decoded.

It isn't being rushed through at all. In addition to rapid decoding of the virus, all the usual need for funding the research, manufacture, and trials of vaccine has been averted. There have been tens of thousands of trials across a much greater diversity of population samples than most vaccines. After monitoring of the millions of doses given so far, all the feedback is that these vaccines are very safe indeed.

Children have young immune systems that are capable of creating a sound natural immunity for themselves, by and large. Those children whose immune systems are compromised will be offered the vaccine.
Giving it to others at the moment is of extremely low priority. Adults first, so far.

The fact you can hold this 'opinion' makes me ridiculously angry.

Its not rushed.
It does not alter dna.

Get a f**king grip.

What about the vaccines you've already had??

Are we not missing the point here? It's not compulsory and some may wish to decline for a variety of reasons; whether that be religion, future health concerns, conspiracy theories - whatever, it's not for us to judge.

However - the social and economic expectations are for us to accept a vaccination, grudgingly or not, for the greater benefit of us, our families, friends, workmates and communities let alone the wider world. If you refuse then you should expect not to be accepted into the same free environment that we all wish to return to. I cannot walk onto a site without boots, a hard hat and a hi-viz jacket; in some cases with PPE that's so OTT compared to the risk it makes no sense - but I can't. HSE law backs up those assessing the risk.

Making vaccination compulsory would be a nightmare in terms of policing that conformity even if it's added onto our passports. It's like Brexit, we should accept that a proportion of the population however small will not want the jab just as we accept that not everybody has the same views on many other topics. It's unlikely that those that refuse will become 'super-spreaders'. Let's get the majority done and move on to get our lives and the economy back on track (y)

Interesting you mention HSE law because I can see a covid jab becoming a H&S requirement for certain jobs involving time spent in someone's personal space, such as plumbers, sparkies, home helps, cleaners etc.

Given that a fair proportion of cases and deaths occurred due to infections acquired in care homes and hospitals it seems common sense that all care home and hospital staff should be vaccinated and I wouldn't have a problem with mandatory vaccination for those jobs. There is already a precedent of vaccination for work as Armed Forces personnel are jabbed as necessary prior to overseas operations.

Personally, I don't want it but will probably have it if it means life can get back to normal, even if it doesn't prevent infection. I still think we shouldn't be relying on vaccination though when there are other prophylactic and immediate treatments in the pipeline for the UK (and already authorised in other countries) which will reduce the amount of virus floating about.

I think one has to accept that a small % will not have a vaccine for assorted reasons, well founded or not.
Its the people who work in care homes that wont have it who worry me though, should they not feel obliged to?
Yes they should, given the amount of cases acquired in hospitals and care homes. All hospital staff should be obliged too, not only to prevent the spread amongst patients but to reduce the amount of days lost to illness and self-isolating - protect the NHS

Seems we who go down the line of getting vaccinated arnt automatically and for free going to get some form of id linked proof that we have had the jab but will or could be possibly in the fullness of time be able to get such from your /our gp.
Fine , bit like a shotgun certificate ,dr being asked to send a report saying you are of sound mind and then sending a bill to you for the letter. Personally i think it should be the other way round as those refusniks need to be seriously questioned and those who in the public and their own interests are getting the jab should not have to ask for proof of vacc which im fairly sure will come about eventually

Got the AZ 1st dose vaccine last friday - Now my left arm is giving me serious gyp.

Strange really because I had the jab in my right arm, and that feels absolutely normal.

Could those be 'sympathetic pains'? I don't know the correct medical expression but I once convinced myself I'd swallowed some poison, felt very faint, and thought I was about to collapse. I had an instant recovery after I'd phoned the manufacturers and been reassured that the chemical was in fact quite harmless!

No adverse symptoms after my vaccination and it was actually a bit of an anti climax. I even drove home after 5 minutes as the recommended 15 seemed excessive and a bit ridiculous!
