Temple Grandin AHDB free webinar tonight

It isn’t a webinar, it’s an online discussion group for 30 people - a one off. Very different. They get emailed a link.

You email [email protected] saying you are a beef levy payer who saw the Temple Grandin webinar and would be interested in a beef version of the above. They will add you to a list. If there’s demand, they will look into setting a beef one up.

A discussion of dairy farmers will definitely focus on different things to beef farmers.
Thanks.

Does that mean that if enough of us ask for a discussion on a subject we'll get it?

It was very good, but still not clear how I persuade my sucklers to actually use a self locking yoke rather than standing just shy of it. Probably best just replace it with a manual one I think. 18 months of TB testing has made them too savvy.

Had that chat with her in the many conversations. She is a huge advocate of treats. A molassed treat that cows can lick from a bucket or you can put directly into their mouth and they will lean forward for more. She says it is the same principle as a dog, reward good behaviour (not bad) and make the experience a pleasant one.

It makes sense. I get the feeling that the work you do to condition your cattle before you need to handle them is worth it for when you need to handle them. Probably easier to condition them in the winter when you can run them all through your handling system without stopping them and then give them a treat - then run them through again, stop each one and then let it out for a treat.

On a more serious note- Disconnect that Front handle - you will hit someone's head with it - speaking from experience.
Actually there's much more danger from the rear handle when in a two person operation.

I always brief my vet and we work together . Sometimes you need someone opening the front gate and yoke handle whilst I open the rear tipping diamond gate to get a younger or more timid beast to lead through

Agree but only have one handle in operation.

I honestly don’t know. It certainly wouldn’t be my decision to make but if I were in a position where I had a list of farmers wanting something, I would want to make sure I fulfilled it if I were the beef levy board.

I’ve emailed and they’ve obviously had a few requests. Been to one of MPs talks before and very informative.
