Over 400 Irish cows been through, never yet.
Only speak as I find.
Plenty of other issues mind
We had over 30 % of ours be John's positive a lot dint show till 4+ lactation never anything scour but lots of reds on quarterly testing, we kept them in milk untill three red tests after we had removed just over 20 in their 4/5 laction we still have many of the remaining ones now so they are reaching there 8/9 lactation now. Most profitable groups of cows we have ever purchased.

Had a AHDB email saying the chair of the dairy group is a Angela Rhodes and Jemma Holden is dairy technical manager. So there must be a board of people representing the different dairy producer groups on this. How much does red tractor spend on these groups making up the rules over the year?

It isn't related to the consultation but it is related to Red Tractor and calves. AHDB are running this webinar for people worried about calf stipulations and breeding policy/housing contingency. As I understand it, these are already implemented...

Yes. Just means calves are going to be cheap. Be more worried about this if i was a suckler herd bloke if I'm honest. Maybe the question should be asked do they think red tractor fit for purpose and why?

Or quality might still hold a premium and the market polarises between those good at rearing calves and those not.

I agree. I can see it being a matter of knowing where your calves are going before they are even born. Then a matter of making sure you can guarantee they will be better than calves from the next farm to keep the rearers’ loyalty.

The biggest problem is the boom and bust. Everyone wants the best price for the best calves and are happy to take the loss or even dispatch the low value calves. Far better to work out what you need as an average and set up a collaboration so there’s margin in it for everyone. That knowledge you’ve got a home for ALL your calves is worth something.

Unusual for young Gemma to be lost for words.
But if she is on RT TAC then she was part of the team that dreamed up the new proposals.
I think sometimes she is more interested in self promotion rather than those she is meant to represent.
The way boards operate is in most organisations is if you vote in favour and cause no hassle you will be rewarded with a nice cushy number on another board.
