And macron still wont lockdown, after the half term finishes there could be a huge rise in numbers, looking on webcams at the resort we were going to there was a lot of people about, still I guess if they contest the case numbers wont rise. I'm watching some cycling while having lunch, one day race in Belgium, they went through a town, loads of people no masks and no social distancing, funny how many criticise the UK but others appear worse
They announced regional lockdowns will be brought in, Moselle down the Alps , Marseille etc 7 regions in all.
Infections are rising and I think they should bring them in now. Veran says he's waiting for more data.

Thought it would be our fault
As with all the variants and the original covid it is the place that it is identified in first that names it

in January 1951 the uk had a flue epidemic the worst between 1925 and 1999 the Liverpool variant
hospitals ran out of incubater hoods for babies so put 2 babies in each incubator to keep them alive

spanish flue did not originate in Spain but was first identified by the spanish

I think the job is slower with the Pfizer vaccine compared to the AZ, but twice as many people in France have now been fully vaccinated than the UK. And it's a big job to persuade the French to even bother getting vaccinated.
The latest study 23000 people shows 85 to 95 % effective ness in real world use
and from the az vaccine the effect kick in after a week at 70% rising to 95% at 4 weeks in over 90 year olds
the French need to use all the latest available data to save lives

the problems of administering the vaccines that need specialist cold stores and are not easy to give locally

it will be a tradgedy for France if they do not vaccinate quick enough especially in more remote areas and with people who cannot get to the vaccine

from a pan European level there is danger of a new variant developing in an area with low vaccine uptake
herd immunity is needed every where

Doesn't seem to be any problems with the deep frozen stuff here. Can be used for 6 hours after defrosting. So split the 900 dose pack at Central store and send out to local vac centres within 20 mile radius. Finish the days vaccinations off using the other product stored in the vac centre fridge
That seems to the gist of what is happening round here

Surely if France (your example) don’t use some of the available vaccine, somewhere else will?

The problem we had over here was some older people who could not get to the vaccine centres and had to wait till the local surgery had az vaccine and local nurse to visit the home
in very rural areas this was a big issue Scotland wales and many remote rural areas

By the autumn the available vaccine will be almost limitless logistics will be the biggest problem
in the uk momentum has built particularly the momentum of changing people’s minds from negative to the vaccine to accepting
a bit of fomo thrown in and now with the latest efficacy results self preservation and the fear of illness

Some more good news
Feb 22 Reuters - Britain’s GlaxoSmithKline and France’s Sanofi on Monday said they had started a new clinical trial of their protein-based COVID-19 vaccine candidate and aim to reach the final testing stage in the second quarter.

The move comes after the drugmakers in December said their vaccine would be delayed after clinical trials showed an insufficient immune response in older people

I am intrigued. On the radio news earlier today a couple of serious items discussing the lack of uptake in certain communities among the groups rolled out so far. Down around 70% or less. The experts were doing the sums and that is insufficient uptake.
