Had 1st dose of posh Pfizer vaccine way back in January. Second dose is booked for early April. This is in amongst my 2nd MMR dose and an on-going round of Hep B vaccinations... More holes than a pin cushion atm.

I would point out that I know several patients who still suffered from being infected despite being vaccinated. Some of them deteriorated and end up in ITU anyway. Don't take any risks purely from assuming you are 'safe'.
Quite agree, I know of someone who was jabbed in January (frontline health worker) and is now hospitalised after testing positive (as has her partner, who has a much milder infection, also vaccinated).

The effects of covid that are all in the news are the deaths
but we may find that the bigger numbers will be the long term effects of having covid lung damage taste loss long covid

as with many viruses for example measles and mumps some children die but many more have long term health health issues that vaccination eliminates
Yep, though measles is different because is an eradication issue and healthy people including children too young to be vaccinated, can die of measles.
Hence it seemed a good idea to give my children the mmr.

I know people vaccinated (1st) who have since tested positive and been very poorly! I think some people see the jab as a cure but it’s really not! Hopefully it gives some benefit long term and we can get back to some normality!
I’ve had both of my jabs but still shielding until April at the moment

There's only a few thousand vaccines here so far. Number one on the list is border workers followed, I think by their families, after that medical staff, then who knows as the government haven't decided yet.

Which vaccine did they get? I think I read the Oxford one wasn't as effective as Pfizer and Moderna?

Had my 1st Pfizer on Jan 20th, sore arm for about 36 hours but thats all. Wife felt fairly grotty for 48 hours afterwards. What we all need to remember is that it takes time for the immunity to build up, for the 1st week or two afterwards you are no better off than before. Mass vaccination for health workers didn't get really rolling until mid January so thats probably why quite a few contracted covid despite being vaccinated. No different for the care home residents.

Latest figures show that it is very similar in effectiveness to the Pfizer jab, plus or minus a percentage point or two on each parameter. There was a lot of anti Oxford/Az stuff flying around from Germany and France a few weeks back, claiming that it wasn't effective, hadn't been tested, shouldn't be used on over 65's etc. Both nations however now appear to have approved it for unrestricted use.

That's good to hear. I think we only have the Pfizer one approved here at the moment.

Not unrestricted. As new trial data has been confirmed H.A.S. has widened the parameters, as they said they would.

If Macron and Merkel hadn't spent a month rubbishing the Az jab, they might not have escalating cases.

Boris took a flyer with AZ and it worked. It just could have ended in tears with bad reactions long term illness and even deaths. Bravo.
I have no problem with the French HAS waiting for the data. I would prefer the Pfizer as there's less side effects reported and I don't want 2 weeks off at a busy time.
Certainly won't have it at the same time as Mrs lbp as can't have both of us sick at the same time.

My wife had her second Pfizer jab last Friday, she was fluey for a couple of days, achey and tired, then some pain and swelling in lymph gland under one armpit for another 2 days, better now. She had no reaction to the first jab, as have I.
I am a little apprehensive about jab number 2 but will still have it, I’m the one who never gets sick, even when she is apparently at deaths door so hoping it’s the same.

I won't be offered one for a few months yet, but Mrs Danllan has had two Pfizers and my mother has had one Oxford. Mrs D felt a bit off and said her arm ached for a day or so; my mother said she felt alright, but was obviously a bit groggy for a day. I'll take whatever I'm offered as soon as I'm offered it.

the french presdent made a load of statements about the vaccine when the eu had made a mess of vaccine procurement and made the problem 1000 times worse
he should have made his statements based on facts he knew instead of reading the daily mail
this has now undermined the vaccine rollout in france

the facts are that the vaccine was tested on a few thousand people summer last year found to have a few mild side effect in some people as all the vaccines do and that it was effective in reducing covid
tested anti body levels were found in most vaccine recipients
because the levels of covid were low in the tested areas it was harder to see the effects of the vaccine on reducing covid in the tested people

now with millions vaccinated in real life the effectiveness of all the vaccine is higher than in the test as indicated by the antibody levels in the tested groupes
