Grazing costs
Hi,
I am new to this forum, what should I be charging for 4 ponies to graze with water from March -Oct? I am at a loss, I have been reading up about this, however there seems to be quite a few variants.

£10 per week is far too cheap........... unless the pony owners are very smart looking lasses with tight jodpurs !!

So many variables in giving a price, but one bit of advice would be to make sure you receive the money in advance....... and stipulate that they are off by a certain date.

There are two type of horse people..... the very rich and then the poor ones that go withouit eating to feed their nags.

Budget enough to replace all your fences after they've left. I wouldn't have horses on the place, sorry.

I've got 2 here , £25 / week each on 2 acres, but an outstanding client , cleans up every day , stays off if it gets wet but still pays

Grazing only I got £15/head ten years ago for the summer. The pictures show what they can do, my garden fence is chewed, the gatepost snapped due to tail rubbing that was last summer. The ground is after 3 weeks of daylight turn out this year.
I bite my lip and keep my mouth shut because I'm fairly certain the woman had a hand in my 21yr old daughter getting the decent job she has had for the last two years which in these times is worth a lot.(to me anyway)

Put a string of electric fencing on the inside of the fencing, should help save it. £15 pw for ponies, £20 pw for horses. If it’s under stocked charge per acre, £15-20pw, including topping where needed

I forgot to say in your situation get at least half upfront and the rest when that runs out don't leave it until the end. Certainly don't let them get in any sort of arrears.

I wouldn't have them at any price ...but if you do be prepared for the place to look a sh!t hole with in weeks !

Thank you all for responding. I have been offered £350 at first for 5 ponies, and then the chap offered £600.00 from April to end of October again 5 ponies. I have water in the field.

£600.00 in total from April until the end of Oct for 5 ponies. Thanks

If the same chap went from offering £350 to £600 - I wouldn't trust him. He's only going to be looking after himself.
Fences, gates, weeds, fertility. You could easily spend 1k+ tidying up afterwards .
