That's a good price, I've been quoted everything from £490-680 today calling around ? - where is it from? sadly Farm Compare doesn't do trace element prices yet or it would be really interesting to see the range on pricing for this

That was from a major supplier that has National coverage. My buying group price was more expensive.

is their name a secret ?

Is the company you're dealing with a secret?

I'm curious about all this same price for everyone thing. Surely if someone can get a good or better deal than their neighbour, it would be a good idea to keep it quiet and give themselves an advantage?
After all people don't show everyone the invoice from a new machinery purchase, discuss what they actually paid for land rent or the terms of a contract farming deal.

no its not secret at all - the FarmDeals site says the offer is from Badger crop nutrient ltd if orders for 20 is reached by 6th april. (i think its half way there already today!)

secrecy in uk agriculture only benefits suppliers and not farmers, TFF farm compares sets out to end that silliness

over 16000 price points / supplier details on there already ! so it’s working !

personally i find nothing more annoying than farmers claiming thry can get a better price than just about anyone else............ them refusing to share where from

frankly i don’t believe anyone who wont share where from anymore

what possible reason is there not to help others not sharing such good deals if you can ?

The way I do buisness i’m afraid it is a secret on a public forum.
I know that you will chastise me for that .....
but the agreement that I have with suppliers is that I do not broadcast their prices far and wide either with competitors or with the public. Sorry about that.

farmers really are their worst enemy

do they tell you you’re special and get extra special prices for keeping secrets ? ........ like they tell everyone else !

ask yourself this ? why would a supplier of anything with a good price want to keep it secret ? surely a good price is something they would want to promote and do more business ?

or maybe your price isnt ACTUALLY that the best they gave someone so need to be sure customers don’t dare speak to one another !

or as i often suspect maybe prices claimed without named source are just a load of narcissistic rubbish to make people feel clever online ???

at least Farm Compare cuts through the bullshite

Calm down Clive ....... no BS here.
You are of course correct, the price I had may not be their best price ....... but IT WAS The best price available to me.
Now I find that I could have saved a £10 🤦

I don't know, a lot of people like to keep their deals quiet. Its not unique to Ag either, businesses consider lots of things "commercially sensitive".
I believe enjoying getting a better price than a neighbour is a real thing in Ag, even if people don't admit it. I think there's also a reluctance to share prices, in case you were the one paying too much.
There's a lot of threads on here asking about tractor prices. Why doesn't everyone get a straight quote, include the spec and post it on here for all to compare?
Next step, get all land rents and contract farming deals posted on here so people can see what the markets doing and you can get rid of land agents, who just take a massive cut out of farmers.
Farmers are competing against one another, there will always be secrecy.

Having bought chemical for a farming company in the past-if you shout about great deals-they will be the last ones you will ever get!

and thats s good thing ?

Farm Compare has ended that stupidity - farmers are sharing prices everyday on there 100% anonymously

supply companies that believe their prices are secret are living in the past and o lg kidding themselves these days

Bit like Easyjet-there are only so many rock bottom prices to offer before the suppliers wheels fall off. Buying groups, irrespective of what they say, will never be given the lowest price. Groups like Fram, Woldmarsh etc-the suppliers will have blown their brains out for the sale. Big individual units, with a keen eye and active engagement, can always better them. I reckoned that when I was doing it 15 years ago the centre(bottom) of the £££ market was Stamford/Cambs(I was up North). Had very active people in areas and that area was always that bit cheaper.

Agree that would be nice for everyone to have bottom death price-but thats not how life works-is it? Oh, and always be aware of quality. Remember being given a hot price for azoxy- all turned up in 1 litre cans!!

Had an IBC of Manganese delivered today for £460 from Hutchinsons, but as said above they don't normally take the empty container back. If it's washed out is it safe for drinking water for livestock?

i would not feel too sorry for input manufacturers or distributors - they do better than most farmers do ! long way before anyone’s price is at the bottom just yet !

FarmDeals is just another buying group but without the membership / administration fees / commitment of the more traditional ones

it also has potential to be far bigger than existing groups- just 10% of TFF using it would make it the biggest uk group and scale should lead to better deals, being digital it runs on fresh air vs the structure of other buying groups
