New Defender Commercial

Are grenadier available now ? Why not just get someone to give your 110 a good overhaul ?
Hilly, It doesn't need an overhaul just yet but there comes a point when I will need a newer motor (perhaps). I overhauled my wifes 90 four years back with a nice re-build onto a Richards chassis (LR specialist job) but the 110, because I have loved it for the 27 years in my ownership is still in v good nick and at 104,000 there's not much more I can do mechanically. The G-box was re-built at 80,000 and the clutch was done then. I suppose the only thing to do now is the timing belt but as I haven't used it much during lock-down there are is whole years miles not on the clock.

90HT is more comparable in price with a double cab pickup, I have had mine two weeks now and put just over 1000 miles on it and love it, not even comparable to a pickup for driving!

The only thing with the 90 is you don't get air suspension and load space is limited, but unlike a pickup, the load space is much more useful as everything you put in there stays dry and isn't susceptible to being stolen!

Tried a Ranger today and thought it was OK. Then made the mistake of calling in at Land Rover and had a drive in a D250 Defender. There’s a reason the Defender is twice the price- it’s twice as good! Absolutely blown away by it, it’s on a whole other level to the pickups. Now to wait a year or 3 for used 6 cylinders to come on the market.

Funny enough there's quite a lot of new Defenders in Ipswich right now. They're not bad looking and the spare wheel is central at the rear. I'd imagine they will sell well. Ineos Bombardier fan here though. LR 110 owner at the mo but things may chnge at some point.

By the time you have added a few essential extras, like a two speed transfer box, metallic paint, tow hitch and electrics, the price rises to £62500 inc VAT or £52,000 + VAT, presumably on the road.
Not exactly a bargain two seater commercial, or plaything.

This D5 Commercial was £68k in December 2018 o_O - and no one there at the time could tell me whether that included VAT o_Oo_O. Are you interested I was asked - I couldn't believe it........

If you want a good LR chassis change specialist PM me. 'Tis quite a trip for you but worth the miles. There's a railway station nearby so your journey to deliver & collect could be a reality.
Known as 'grumpy' Alan to his friends he is a superb LR engineer. The farm where the workshop is raises/finishes some good sized beef coos so you would be a happy chap there.
I sent my wifes 90 chassis direct to his workshop and then drove her truck down with three days MOT remaining and it was ready in a month. I came back on the train to Naaaarwich.

LR specialist, but I do know he has a couple of G Wagens that have been patched over the last decade to keep them on the road. I think you will have trouble getting a chassis for your Daihatsu. The biggest advantage in running an old style LR Defender is you can continue to run one with all the spares new & second-hand that are and will be available for a good number of years ahead. There are three chassis builders that I know of and folk like Richards Chassis;https://richardschassis.co.uk/ have a good reputation as the parts that you take off your old LR will actually fit back nicely without alteration or fudging about.

Bit of an update. There is no discount on Defender, nothing. Tried NFU, Anglia, Military. None of them can get discount.

Discovery is another story, there's some very good deals about to the extent the D300 Discovery is £14,000 cheaper than the same spec Defender and £4000 cheaper than basic basic spec Defender. Just a shame its a bit ugly.
