I doubt you would pick litter for the same amount as dole. I don't mean that as a put down, just that dole money is hardly a fair days wage for picking litter especially when you see council workers sleeping in their vans for half the day on a back road. Employ the unemployed to do it for a fair rate, not dole. How many times have you seen a crew ( umpteen ) of council workers to do slap dash repairs to pot holes? Amongst roadside litter there are bottles of lorry drivers pish, discarded drug abusers needles etc. I wouldn't do it for dole money.
The amount of people looking for employees their is no need for any able body’s to be on the dole anyway, and if they are perhaps a spell at the littler encourage them to get a job , some need forced to work.

I agree that those collecting dole money should be doing litter picking or other jobs for the good of the nation. My grandfather said that the only time he was out of work was in the 1920's during the depression, he would get dole, or whatever it was then, one week and to get it the next week he would have to go out and sweep the streets.
As a bit of topic it does rankle about this new found "holier than thou" trend for litter picking in that there shouldn't be the bloody litter there in the first place. Also, what the feck do we pay rates to our local councils for to keep our towns and countryside rubbish free? They are responsible for the rubbish bins, collecting and disposal.

Some of the pensioners local to me go walking and collect the litter , I live very very rural, some call it remote , yo wouldn’t believe what they collect it’s unreal !! They do a great job, but why do people do it . ?
Perhaps they have a sense of pride in their surroundings/community, a trait sadly lacking in most of society. The trait most of society have is, why should I do this / that I pay my rates, taxes etc so I’m blowed if I am going to clear up other folks rubbish.
SOCIETY SEEMS TO LACK ANY, SELF HELP ATTITUDE, towards their own lives or the lives of others.
I admire those that DO help themselves and society.👍👍👍

My point above was not meant as I pay my rates so I'm not doing it, it is more along the lines of the councils not doing what is expected of them and good minded citizens are taking it upon themselves to do what the councils aren't.
Local council wouldn’t tend flower beds last summer so locals started doing it , got old off under elf n safety , I think they still doing the flower beds in hi viz bibs 😂 .

I quite agree.
I think most of us draw the line, when it comes to mending all the cursed pot holes in our parish and everywhere else for that matter. (n)
Apologies for going off topic.

On the day of the great man’s funeral can I appeal for a truce on all other comments other than condolences for his grieving widow and family

Thank you

Funerals bring out the lowest common denominator in some folks. On the flip side, others show their true strengths.
