My dad was having a bad lambing one year and took a whole load to the kennels, there was a bloke in there who claimed that he had 1800 ewes and was dropping his first ewe off from 18 months.
Dad came back very depressed and believed that he was the worst stockman, I think that was a nasty thing to say to someone who was clearly struggling with a bad time, wish I knew who he was!
I know a few of them sorts I jus smile nod my head & go ah yeh fair dos to ya, then turn round and mutter to myself wat a c**t.......

We had a smallholder come and spend a day in lambing shed for some experience. Outside shed lay a small pile of dead lambs ( lambing circa 600 at time). He spent the day obsessed with the losses, I explained that lambing was going very well, the weather had been kind and this year our losses were relatively low however anyone lambing sheep could expect to loose between 10 and 15% by the time they were settled in field at turnout.
Later in the day he restated he didn’t expect so many losses so I asked how his lambing had gone ? He had only lost 3 lambs, one a weak triplet, one still born and one dead in the sack born at night. Then proudly told me he had 20 live lambs turned out on ewes. I asked him to do the maths because I was convinced that at that stage our losses were considerably less than his ! 😂😂😂😂
All about % we've a neighbour who compares his loses out of his 100 to ours out of 900, he thinks we've an awful lot of loses til I tell him he's actually lost more than we have, same with his 8 pet lambs and our 15

Chuffin mastitis my biggest problem this year with the Texels, had a few in Mules too, but texels hellish with it.
Same here, highest % of mastitis in our pure Texels we have ever had. We've had mastitis in Ewes that have lambs ranging from 2 to 8 weeks of age,all been out at grass and all turned out within a couple of days after lambing.

Warrens up here have dropped their prices quite a bit. They said they have renegotiated with the renderers, but i think its more to do with the competition have dropped theirs.

Young guy taking over sheep farm says to outgoing tenant how many ewes can I put on Reply. As many as you like they'll die back to the number it can stand

Previous tenant here used to run 250, lambing indoors in March, creep feeding and selling as stores the following year.

My sheep are currently trying very hard, but I hope it won’t get that bad!

How much are you paying for ewes collected? During lambing I went to every friday collection and got it down to £10/ewe as over 7 a week going. Managed to go from October-mid Feb with no ewe losses then lost 6-7 in 1 day 🤦🏻‍♂️
Glad everyone else has similar stories though, @Mc115reed the whole 15% from scanning to weaning is right though! I’m very happy if it’s under 20% from scanning to selling, it’s depressing thinking 500 lambs have died somehow 🤷🏻‍♂️
My losses post lambing are very very low (over 2 days - selling they would be under 50), it’s the fat ewes that give me most of my losses during lambing.
