You need too see the hoggs first though... there were some texel hoggs today at £170, but even I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole... 😉
That’s my thought. You have to see the trade to comment really, a lot of those hoggs with lambs might not be big enough to rear lambs. I know someone who puts the tup in with every ewe lamb left on the farm on 5th nov and sell some them as hoggs and lambs, I wouldn’t go near those things, but would look cheap on a report.

Iv got some serious looking lambs ready too go now at 40kg I’m on withdrawal until last week of the month so if guth is correct about £8kg in 2-3weeks then I’m gonna sleep fudgeing well when I send my first load in 😍
Sell them and spend the money on ewes and lambs, make the money work for you.

I notice on a butchers Facebook group I follow they are complaining the price of chicken is rocketing to them, (shortage in Europe due to bird flu) I know it’s a fairly quick tap to turn on the supply of but in the short term it’s not going to do the beef and lamb job any harm

Kepac have taken 5p out of the beef price for next week ☹️ down here

Has the pig price risen at all? We keep hearing of shortages but no idea if their prices have risen?

In the week ending 1 May, the GB UK-spec SPP jumped by 2.30p on the week to average 144.86p/kg. This is the largest week-on-week growth recorded since August 2016, and puts the measure 16.29p behind the price recorded for the same week in 2020.

Estimated clean pig slaughter at GB abattoirs totalled 177,700 head for the week, up 0.4% from the week before and up 2% on the same week a year ago.

Average carcase weights stood at 88.72kg, 130g heavier than the week before. This is the first week-on-week rise in carcase weights since mid-February.

In the week ending 24 April, the UK-spec APP rose by 0.80p on the week to average 146.08p/kg. This narrowed the gap between the SPP and APP for that week to 3.52p/kg.

worldwide prices , going to need to watch trade deals with aus and NZ long term across europe , these prices are in euros , ppk will be about 80% of below, you can see France is best market that sets tone , Should NZ increase supply to them will have a big impact , but while large volumes going to china supply is tight , which is good all round
