I heard a tale of a chap once, bought 300 hfrs to serve.

Saputo have taken on two new autumn calving herds down here (south hams) in the last two years
I have put in cubicles for the suckers cows as got sick of paying astronomical straw prices. Have got good access to grazing ground via tracks. So only major investment is parlour and dairy. Oh and cows of coarse.

they are not looking for spring milk, we had to 'enlarge' our autumn block, to sign up with them. They have just lost a very large producer, Y farms, so probably worth a call.

all the processors ought to be encouraging the younger farmers into milking, but putting a 'minimum' production on new contracts, makes that start up out of reach, through sheer cost, for many potential young farmers, a very short term view, driven by the bean counters.How many you planning on milking first year. Had the very same conversation yesterday with someone.
Would be nice to see new entrants given some encouragement through a scheme. Have to be criteria to prevent Son's/Daughter's setting up satellite farms.
