Enjoying time off whilst at home.

Being at home is rarely relaxing unless I'm watching a F1 race. Too many chores my wife saves up for me! I can't complain too much - she has done the chores while I've been at work 7 days/week since February.

If I want to relax, I take my car for a drive around the Dales. Soooo many good driving roads around N Yorkshire

Struggling to switch off ATM . Got so much going on and largely on my own though the OH is more mobile now but not very able .
Would love to just get away for a couple of nights but not possible at the moment . We have got a few days away in Aug for grandsons Christening up in Gisburn but it's a long way off .
Got a load of calves being delivered today ,which is probably a mistake , but decided to rear a few again . Haven't done any for a few yrs . Spent yesterday getting the feeder out and working then getting a shed ready !
Never used to work Sundays except for stockwork ....am aiming to get back to it .
Why buy the calves then ?

I play cricket on a Sunday afternoon. First game of the season was yesterday. It was damp and windy but fantastic fun.

As captain and wicket keeper I have to be in the moment all the time I’m on the pitch. A good mix of lads play too, some in farming but most not. It really helps to switch off for an afternoon.

Heard my other half crying in the garden one day, sobbing to herself, I can’t do this any more were her words. Too much work on my part and too much stress and worry in general. At that moment I decided to change things a bit. I still work hard and strive to achieve my goals, but also realised there’s no point “getting there” one day to realise you’ve squandered your life for some end point you’re too old to enjoy. It’s meant to be a life, not a score sheet. F*ck it all off from time to time and take your Mrs or kids or both out for a walk and try to remember why you do this sh*t.

I have a group of good friends I meet down the pub none of them connected to farming so never have agricutural related issues. To me it puts life into perspective as everybody In life has their own issues. Also the common myth that men never mention and bottle up health issues does not arise as we discuss ours and medication. we couldn’t meet up over lookdown but kept in touch on social media. The age group between 40 and 80.

The OH can't do much around the farm yet but rearing calves is something she can do close to the house and it gives her a purpose to get out and do something. Its fairly easy with a machine but hugely rewarding......if all goes well .
Its been a tough few months for her and it willl be very good for her .

think i'm a bit different,,,,,there's a fekkin surprise .......i just like to 'draw along' and if that means catching up weekends so be it...my farm is only small so it's gotta be 'way of life' really.....i wormed and jagged some lambs on sunday....but took it real easy this afternoon.....my mood was also better cos i'd got job done and ,as it rained overnight, i'd beaten the weather....for once;)

I’m a bit like @spin cycle . I guess it’s an age thing, in that when the children were younger and my wife worked off farm all week, weekends were more precious as family time. Now it’s the two of us pottering on, it doesn’t really matter what day of the week it is. I don’t go looking for work though, but if it’s important like spraying or harvesting, it gets done.
This Sunday mrs SF was playing cricket, so I walked the dog ( looked at the crops), pulled an old fence down in the garden, watched my beloved Shrewsbury town at lunchtime with a pint of ludlows finest boiling well, then mowed our lawn and the neighbours ( ride on mower, so playing on mini tractor really).
Im also not bothered about, A getting bigger as standing still is going backwards, B sweating assets, or C borrowing money. Life’s too short😀
