It does seem very odd, in previous years I've seen couples being sold & thought where on earth are they going to come out on them at that money & every Tom dick & Harry's trying to buy, but this year when I do see potentially a very healthy margin in um no one's really fussed...... 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Bit like grass keep back in the days of the old headage payments, the headage payment woukd pay for the keep & anything u made out of the lambs was yours - there was money in the job yet land agents struggled to get people to rent the land.... Fast forward to today the land owner keeps all the subsidy & every fudgers after it at big time money.............?? Farmers hey....... I can never work us farmers out..... 🙈

If I had money in the bank atm I think I’d be buying couples I see good money in them personally
Money's cheap, if you see a margin in them get buying. Trouble is what are you getting for £70 a life? I'm not sure I would want a lot of those sheep, the £80 are more likely to live.

I think the nack is to get them bought before the grass arrives, as grass fever amongst those who want sheep without doing a lambing is what really drives the price.

moneys cheap atm but doesn’t mean anybody will give me any 😂 iv borrowed enough lately think I need too start making some money before I borrow any more 🤦‍♂️😂

Is nobody concerned about biosecurity risks from buying in sheep from lots of sources, mixed in a market?

Iirc, didn't you have an expensive problem brought in with bought sheep last year, or do I have you mixed up with someone else?
Last year I bought codd in this year I bought scab in 🤦‍♂️ Gluten for punishment I guess but any sheep I buy in this time are staying well away from my breeding flock for 2 months minimum and I’ll disinfectant trailer/ prattley between uses.. hoping too buy direct from farm this year if I can though

Personally I'd be more concerned about the diseases you can buy in that can't be controlled by a bit of disinfectant and isolating for 2 months.

I know of a guy that couldn't understand why a bunch of Texel X ewes were so cheap in the market and snapped them up. They were riddled with mv, and he now has some serious problems in his flock. :(

For the first time ever I bought some Hoggs with lambs at foot yesterday...but they were all homebred and had never left the blokes farm. Jabbed for toxo and enzo
Even then I’ve jabbed the lot with cydectin and kept them separate for a while

They were a hell of a good show of hoggs though. A real credit too the vendors and a pleasure too watch sold.

I thought I’d have got the reserve pen at £250 though!!
They were good sheep the reserves were to full of cake for me I got the Suffolk x didn't think they would make what they did but I buy off the same 2 farms every year

Those were good Suffolk mules, nice lambs and everything but yes they made £20 more than I expected. But it’s nothing if you know the sheep and the vendor!
