I suspect interest rates will rise sooner or later to prevent a complete collapse in the value of our currency against the Yen and resultant inability to buy / import anything.
Tis the same world wide. Greenspan says it's already well under way. Only answer will be a sharp rise in interest rates. How can EVERY country borrow endless amounts....Has to all come from somewhere....

If the Government hadn't paid furlough there would have been rioting on the streets as the Proletariat went hungry.
Up to a point but a lot of that furlough money has just fuelled another artificial property boom. There was no need to abolish stamp duty to avoid people going hungry. It was just another inflationary populist political move by a party whose only measure of success is ever rising property prices for some bizarre reason.
Cash was always a waste of time and those with it are producing nothing, spend it all or borrow as much as you can to increase your asset base.
Cash or savings is pretty handy during a lean time. If you borrow all you can and hit a bad patch you can become insolvent very quickly. If the Proletariat were encouraged to save then furlough wouldn’t be needed and the economy generally would be healthier for it.

Tax capital gains on principle private residences. That's all that's needed. Stops incientivising the constant "investment" in a necessity, rather than industry.
Need a huge majority in any western parliament for that... as your sure to either lose the next election or .....lose the next election.

Common sense may agree with you, but no one else will.

Property prices are increasing world wide, looking at the figures property is more affordable now than it was when I bought my first house ( interest rates at 18%). I agree no need to pay stamp duty to avoid going hungry, stamp duty and furlough are completely different, if you are going to shut the economy down by telling people to stay at home you either furlough or pay the dole, it all comes from the same pot.

Wouldn't know about cash or savings, never had any or any desire to have any, I would rather own a piece of land, whether you go insolvent depends on the level of borrowings and how they are structured along with the management skills you have to ride out a tough patch.

Why would the economy be healthier if everyone saved? It would be the opposite, you need the general public to spend to keep the wheels of the economy going and people in work. Your government has recently given 130% tax relief to encourage businesses to spend, what is the difference between that and encouraging the Proletariat to spend.

Our government is trying to do that and it just shows the naivety and lack of understanding of what drives the individual. CGT on houses will just decrease the amount available on the market and increase the cost of housing.

Here they allowed people to dip into their superannuation twice. 10k each time. A lot of people blew it on s**t..... But I suppose as a consumer driven growth society that's what capitalism is about. Endless growth. (Pity theres no such thing).

The growth over the past 100 years has been fairly phenomenal, no sign of it stopping yet, it may dip a bit but will continue, what is it with this desire to go back to sack cloth and ashes?

No desire. Just an observation. Too many people for the planet now. One day everyone will wake up to it...... Mind you , it only takes 80 years to solve the problem........

So who has lent all this money that has been borrowed , and where does it come from .
The world's goverments borrow trillions , where from .
Are the banks still gearing their lending and actually lending far more than they actually have in deposits.?
Are we all living in one giant south sea bubble . Which will eventually burst .
