Brake cylinders

Been quoted £350 each for new cylinders for our Massey 34 combine. Seems a lot?? Do I have to get the proper part from the dealer or is there anyone worth trying who might have a cheaper alternative?

I've very little experience of working on brakes - are there generic cylinders that fit several machines or do they tend to be specific? Would it even be worth trying an auto parts place? Cheers

You could get it rebuilt.
Its probably pitted inside,so unlikely it will repair. If its a Girling one it will be available from a motor factor for a fraction of the price, might need to reuse the plunger with a new seal on but i bet the cylinder is used on other things.

Is it a master cylinder?
Looking at past parts web page, I think to rebuild it would be £100 each would be about right.
Bearing in mind I dont know you cylinder size.
Falling that you could take it to a motor factors and see if they can find a modern equivalent.
