We won’t want a thunderstorm on our barley before harvest . Although it’s quite springy.

Skyfall well in ear now and looks to have good potential.

Fodder beet are a good size now too and seem to be enjoying this warmer weather, something been having a nibble though! Going to kill the barley off tomorrow before it starts competing for moisture.

Spring barley looking a bit on the thick side but I can live with that.

And a bit more skyfall on the way back to the yard just as the sun was setting.

Will the winter barley yield be any good????
From the picture it looks very thin, when I've had barley looking like that it's been 30cwt/AC.
we have 25 acres that i would acept 30 cwt better than redrillingwith spring and getting a ton , it is horrible land

I would be happy with that, but there's a long way to go yet. You won't know till the combine hits the field.

Dont think there will be shortage of straw this year. But a drop of rain would help grain fill
What sort of straw yield tonnes per acre would you expect off a good crop of barley like you have pictured?

I'm a complete novice to cereal growing.
