Fraser make sure you count the furrows every morning because if you post it on here you might be down to 4 before you know it!
You don't know whos watching.................;)

Exactly, you never know who is watching, and it doesn't take long for criminals to find what they're looking for.

There is always a risk; but why make it easier by letting criminals do their reconnaissance online, from the comfort of their homes, rather than having to take a risk themselves and go out and drive around - where there are our eyes watching and reporting suspicious activity to the police? Don't gift the criminals.

They'd have been dissapointed if they'd headed there to nick it, by time the photo was posted it was miles away.

Do you stand on street corners with 'The end is nigh' sandwich boards on as well? All this scaremongering benefits no-one and is not in the spirit of this thread. Opportunist thieves are out there all the time and I'm pretty sure they don't rely on three year old Google earth photo's, they don't walk or drive around the yard much either now for a look see. Weapon of choice are drones and unless we post sentries armed with 12 gauges, there is not a lot we can do.

There's a few new sheds up there now, that'll confuse them.

Out working I hope. It looks a good bit of kit, and certainly a lot better than anything I used to get to play with when I was a kid.

In this case, it was away - but that is not always the case; and at some point it could well be back for storing (though there are many variables, it may be borrowed, contracted, owned, etc.). The concern is, the criminals will see something that they like, and zero in on that location - and judging by that location and business, there is a lot of good kit to check out.

I don't want to spoil this thread, I'm far from a party pooper, I just want to educate and raise awareness of what the risk is, and be careful how things are posted online can be a problem.

I think I've said enough already, so back to topic... (y)

Definitely not

Not scaremongering, simply education and raising awareness. Making people sit up and think before posting photos responsibly. I come from a long line of farmers, going back too many generations to count, but myself, I've been working overseas for the last 20/30+ years. And I keep hearing about "rural crime" and how bad things are... but then I see common mistakes like this.

Opportunist thieves are out there all the time and I'm pretty sure they don't rely on three year old Google earth photo's, they don't walk or drive around the yard much either now for a look see. You're right, drones are becoming more common but that is about covering a wider area in a short space of time and carrying out reconnaissance at distance, to reduce their own risk of been detected/caught. The criminals still need a start point to target, and not random flights.

I should start another thread elsewhere and not get in to it here...

Poor choice of farmyard to go google snooping over to make a clumsy sales pitch - as it never sleeps.
