Got to the Warren on my shepherding rounds this morning and I thought they were finally onto me ..............

.............found myself in the middle of a Police dog training exercise

The keeper usually warns me when there's one going on but it must have slipped his mind today.

One ewe.......

......and three Exmoor ponies ........

......were "helping Police with their enquiries" but were later released without charge.

In fairness the “Adran cwn”, or dog department is a vital part of the police service and I’d imagine regular training is vital.

It's a bit careless leaving five cars with their boots open; if they're not careful, someone could come along and steal them!

But at least they wont have to wait 3 days to give each other a crime reference number, before telling their boss "just to claim them on the insurance..."

I found a police car and dog handler a long way down my fields and an awful long way from any road. Bloody dog bit me!

I would guess that the police are like other public bodies, they don't have insurance for theft as they are 'self insuring', ie if something is nicked they - that is the taxpayer - just buy a new replacement.
(that's how it was explained to me by someone who works for NE, happy to be corrected).

Wouldnt be a big fan of the police but love watchin them shows when the dogs are sent after some "baddie". Theres somethin just magical about howvsmart some animals are. Farmer up the road his dad was an undertaker back when horses pulled the hearse, 1 day they were doin a funeral and loaded up the coffin but the horses wouldnt move no matter how much they "encouraged" them, turned out the person wasnt dead even though the doctor pronounced them dead and they woke up a while later.

Aye, there's the thing - half of 'em had their engines running and the 'scenario', as they called it, was going on about a mile away. Nobody with the vehicles. I presume the air-con was keeping the dogs cool :scratchhead:

If they'd been one of them ScoobyDo Impretzas there, I might have been tempted to have had a bit of a blast round. Mind you, the tracks on the Warren are only suited to bottom gear

I thought most of the countries coppers were heading to Cornwall for the weekend. Saw a van marked up as Essex Police driving through Exeter this lunchtime.

They used to do training on my place. That all stopped after we put scare electric wires on all of the dyke and fences.....very hard for their runner to climb over it when i forgot to turn the whole system off for them
