Australia Free Trade Deal?

It's not good waiting for them, you have to get off your ars*s and do it yourselves. If Macron had pulled a stunt like that on French farmers (if its all true), they would have burnt the Élysée Palace and be parading his head up and down the Champs Elysees on a frontend loader by now.
Bozo’s head would look good on a front end loader, probably world beating!

Anyone seen any details on the deal. If I remember correctly, in the proposed trade deal with the USA, they wished to maximise their beef quota with Sirloin as apparently it was worth double in the UK compared to the USA, but they had no real interest in shipping grinding beef as there was no margin. Would this be a similar call for Australian beef I wonder. :scratchhead:

Interestingly, it has been reported that this deal with Oz is going to be worth 0.02% increase to our GDP.
I wonder what the reverse figure will be?

Of course, the real issue is not this particular deal but the fact that it is a Trojan Horse for other deals that could be far more damaging.

Never mind, in Liz Truss we ... er .. trust
The silly woman wants trussing up,so she cant do any more damage.

Worth pointing out that we do currently import around 270,000t of beef already. Aus beef (esp. at the moment) is no cheaper than the beef that we are currently importing. As @cows sh#t me to tears pointed out, trade happens on economics, not because Aus farmers would want to 'flood' the market. I'd be highly surprised actually if Aus came anywhere close to the quota that has been proposed - they already have access to the UK and EU markets through (relatively small) quotas and don't fully fill them now. I'm not saying there won't be an effect, there will, but Aus is just one in a line of new trade agreements the govt. is going to sign, yes there will be increased competition but it will also improve market access to millions of new consumers.

I'd happily try Aus beef to be honest, as I'm sure it'll be pretty tasty and (unless there is a significant change to UK food safety laws) it won't contain any hormones, just like all the beef that Aus currently ships to a number of markets that prohibits the sale of beef treated with hormones (Like the EU!). But also, just the same as I like that French consumers eat our lamb, Chinese and Japanese consumers eat our pork and US consumers enjoy eating our cheeses etc.

I think beef and sheep farmers have much more to fear from our own domestic environmental policy (as misguided as it may be around beef and lamb) in terms of the threat to continuing viable livestock businesses. As a family of farmers and butchers, who market all our produce direct to consumer, I'm confident that demand will remain strong going forward, esp with increased awareness of local supply chains etc that covid has seemed to increase the importance of. While not everyone, or hardly anyone can do this, there is plenty of commitment by UK retailers towards stocking British beef, I don't think that is going to change anytime soon.

This is our 15th free trade deal. Do you seriously think we will use the UK as a dumping ground for meat?? Only 2 of the export processors have been granted access back into the Chinese market since the "covid shutdown" . The rest have sold their products domestically AND made money. Good money..... Get a grip, for a nation that built its "empire" on maritime dominance and trade , you lot seem to have reverted back to hermits.
Remainers can't see the wood from the trees , mainly because their heads are stuck up their arses .
