Taking a go at second cut. We’ve had major growth this past fortnight.

Question, Saturday paper Grass watch says grass now is m+18, what do cows giving 25/30 litres need meal wise? Does the winter guide of 0.3kg/litre still stand? I have to say any cow giving 18 litres here would be getting 3kg/day but then I wouldn't have perfect grass. Standing hay I think the English call it. Impossible to manage at the moment.

NI dairy co-op Dale Farm has signed a deal to provide Danish dairy giant Arla with with whey protein concentrate, which will be used as an ingredient in infant formula and consumer health ingredients.
From the BBC NI Business reporter.
DF producers will be happy, bound to be worth 5ppl, make up for not adding anything this month!

Holds breath........!

Standing hay maybe but we’re finding they are holding incredibly well on it .not fussed on cutting too much in case we wish we had it if this dry weather holds out

I’m really surprised how they’re milking. Yes there’s seed heads but lovely green sole too. If I followed official guidance,I would mow everything and bale. Scared. North wind last night. Needed coat to bring in cows. Forecast 4 degrees tonight.

My cows were in what only could be described as fairly heavy silage and they were eatin it up and milkin well on it. Regrowth would be slower than id like atm which could be a problem down the line
