We bought an electric VW Golf two years ago (approx). Marginal decision financially (interest free loan) and we have the benefit of two small wind turbines.

Positives: More or less charged for free (but we have renewables), goes like excrement off a shovel. I use it whenever I can. Low servicing and road tax costs.

Negatives: Range! 90 miles in winter, 135 summer (big difference!). Doesn't like my heavy right foot, range goes through the floor.

Ideal for my wife driving fairly locally but I would struggle driving it to work (northern outpost of Newcastle). And wouldn't consider taking it away on holiday this weekend. Range and purchase cost are the key to increase uptake, IMO. But there is no choice, burning fossil fuels is forking the planet!!

Electric has benefits especially with all the emissions paraphernalia ruining modern engines.
What Car?'s electric car reliability report found the Tesla model 3 was the most dependable executive car - beating all petrol and diesel rivals. Just 5 per cent of cars suffered a fault, according to owners. What's more, they could all still be driven and were fixed in a day or less at no cost to owners. Although the model S didn't fare so well...

Since Beeching, we have actively designed society to make daily use of a car pretty much essential.
Prohibitive train fares, decimation of bus routes, a planning system that puts houses miles away from shops.
It isn't the fuel source that needs changing, but rather the factors that force us into our cars.

V8 or go home 😉.

Short term the up side is hopefully fuel prices will start to drop as there’s less petrol/diesel cars on the road, which will make my 4.6 v8 economic to run at sub 15mpg 😂.

Work vehicle wise I’m waiting on the Ford ranger lightning (or whatever it’s called) to come to the uk. Not that I can afford one 😔

times newspaper today govt going to rack up fuel duty to try make ppl switch:(......towing is gonna be a nightmare:(

No not yet but it'll come.

Range puts me off... Do a fair bit of miles.

I can leave here to Herts and be back for Bargain hunt and lunch. 450 Miles covered and still a week's worth of running round in the tank.

im not going add any more because it winds me up too much , suffice to say extra housebuilding in the rural area has not been planned or thought through correctly, its an ongoing fudge up and no one cares.
