Contractor for Smallholding - West Wales

Hi all,

We have a smallholding near New Quay and have 2.5ac (across 3 paddocks) that need cutting for hay.
We have previously been able to cut and turn ourselves and contract for baling but this year we haven't got a mower so can only turn and row up.

Can anyone recommend someone to mow and small bale for us?

Geraint must be quite close to you there. He is at Caerwedros and does a lot of work for Neuadd. Not sure whether he or Penrhywlas above Llanarth have small balers but if not they probably know someone that does.

If he is Caewedros my in-laws must know him, they are in Nanternis and it is their fields that need cutting!

He is basically between Nanternis and Caerwedros so virtually next door if the land is on the Caerwedros side of the cwm rather than the Rhiwonnen/Maenygroes side. Either way he couldn't be much more local than that.

Ah Gog! He is next door! He doesn't have a small baler and couldn't mow for us last year. Amazing chap though, really friendly and helpful. My daughter loves seeing him in his tractor.

I've already to him who to call , Bale Buster [emoji23]
He was baling before we knew what a small baler was
@Cowabunga must know him . He used to go out muck spreading when Brian Willis was contracting in the early 70ts

Thank you. I have spoken to a couple of people from PM's sent. Seems mowing isn't a problem it is the small baler that is hard to locate.
I told my in-laws to graze the fields in the future and buy in the forage but they've been doing it for the past 20 years but now that equipment they brought second hand 20 years ago is failing and so are their bodies it is becoming.ore hassle than its worth.

Thank you all. After speaking with Geraint he is getting it done. Frank is cutting it as we speak and Geraint will find a baler.

Hay Making 2021

150ish small bales off of 2.6ac. Far more than we expected considering the fields have no fert, no manure, no nothing. They are soaking wet all winter, so wet there is a well in the middle. Those stacked in the yard against the sleepers will be wrapped as come from the outside under the trees.

He had a small baler at approx 3pm when he drove it past our place...

Still had a small baler went he turned up at 5.30 at ours!

I just finished tedding second crop hay just up the road. Cut yesterday but a bit ambitious to expect it to make two day hay, so will probably bale Thursday.

I have just cut a paddock that is ahead of the cattle today, so hopefully bale on friday, hope the baler will work! Small bales are always useful to have a few about.

I just hope to save plastic wrap and handling time by making 5'6" round hay bales rather than 4ft wrapped haylage at unnecessary expense and the cost and time for both wrapping and unwrapping later on. I hate wrapped bales with a passion and only make them when I have no other practical choice.
Rather you than me with the small bales and physical handling that goes with them, in this heat.
I'm going to cut another few acres on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning , for pit silage, while my brother bales hay. I just hope it all fits in the pit, usually reserved for third cut, or some of it will have to be baled and wrapped.
