Farmers earn more from YouTube than their crops

Saw this thread and have had a look at a few farming type videos on YouTube. So far. Seen Harry’s Farm, Ollys blog , Tom Pemberton , mainly all pretty decent. Had a quick look at Ollys Farm seams ok and he gets similar views to Ollys blog . The guy on Ollys blog says his YouTube earnings are paying for his new sprayer, @£2500 a month, so if young Ollie is getting similar he’s not that daft .

A bit like Clarkson's Farm, whether you like or loathe it, I suspect that getting UK farming in the public eye is a good thing. Farmers are obviously a pretty easy target for the government and other organisations, anything that helps get public support onside can only be a positive.

Replying to myself here with a tad more investigation I’ve found a Ollys farm video that’s had 1.5 million views. Now I’m not sure how you get money from YouTube but I’d assume that the more views you get the more money. Once again who’s the idiot here ???

Ollys farm will be earning more than £2500/month. He's got about 100k subscribers where as Ollys Bloggs has about 25,000 subscribers but don't confuse the two. Ollys farm is a uneducated pratt where as Olly Bloggs does a fantastic job behind the camera.

If he is uneducated what does that make the one who critique him on here but seem to constantly watch his videos there by making him more money?

I don't watch his videos, but I do know somebody who lives not far from him which is where my statement came from. I would not repeat some of the stuff I have been told.
I wasn't actually thinking of yourself but some of the others with a similar points being made.

I believe some have used the money to employ others before so it gives them more time to edit and work on video while others use the money to either hire an editor or even an editor and cameraman to film them working. Others though I have heard of working on the farm until 8-9pm then going in and editing and working until 1-3am on YouTube videos then getting up between 5 and 6 to make sure they have uploaded and then work. Rather them than me no matter if it did pay good money that would kill me.

I doubt olly blogs is educated, whatever that means but he is great at explaining things and very switched on in my opinion.

Never watched ollys farm.

I also like Crawford farms, he seems a decent young guy and find his farm interesting.

Theres two ways to edit you tube videos though. Theres Welker Farms way which is subbed out to a professional editor who makes a fantastic job of doing it akin to a tv show. Then theres the more rough and ready way which is what olly bloggs does where he skips the fancy intro's and drone shots etc and just gets on with it. Theres a place for both ways and I for one look forward to Welkers weekly 25 min show yet Olly bloggs daily 10 minute version is just as compelling.
So you can make it as simple or hard as you like basically.

Mike mitchell is pretty much as he records it as well, as you say the differences are quite good to watch, I know millennial farmer talked about getting someone to help his wife with the editing as well.

I liked the way Andrew from farming life for me tightened the combine auger chain using a MILWAUKEE impact gun and wearing MILWAUKEE gloves. Pretty sure he slackened it just before but a great bit of product placement 😉

I ve just watched only s blog and I don’t know if anyone else noticed but his combine computer said it had cut 2160 acres and had harvested 4700 tons I know he had a few beans and oilseed rape but the lions share would be wheat and a lot of that he seemed to be cutting at over20% so no wonder the combines for sale because his yield seem very mediocre to justify all that kit just saying

Yes any product placement is a bit annoying and I stopped watching him because a few months ago he was on about trying to get people to pay a small fee to get more access. At that point I lost a bit of interest. Had a look a few weeks later and he was offering discounts on linkage toolboxes so that was that. I have no issue somebody having a link to a t-shirt or cap etc but pushing other companies stuff isn't something I want to see.
