Beet yields 2020

Who has quota equivalent to 100 t/ha? We have quota more like 70 t/ha. Big beet year, C beet worthless so although I’m pleased with this years crop I’m not getting over excited.
Depends on how it works for fields. I know someone who only grew half his acreage a couple of years ago his yield needed to be 155t/ha🤣🤣🤣

My 5 year average yield isn't really very accurate, it's done on what I send and not what I actually grow, they can have my "A" quota but often there's a better offer for "C" else where! As I've said before f**k'em!!!!!!

Fathers been doing his homework today, working out coatings on next years fert price, sprays etc, he’s got a meeting with a few other local growers with someone from BS about price this Friday.

Are similar little meetings happening across East Anglia? Divide and conquer?

Yes, next week. Haulage already a massive issue.
British Sugar have just sent an email out with the heading;
'Preparing for a shortage of lorry drivers during the 21/22 Campaign'

Therefore all the risk lies with the growers once again if you get your beet up but cant get the transport to move it.
Hopefully i'll be ok as work with a small haulier who has his own little group of beet growers.

Its going to be a nightmare and every lorry on beet is less on other haulage that is also struggling.
I think that beet lifted in October is usually ok sat on the roadside for many weeks unless there are extremes of weather... I hope!

30ish mile round trip, between 3500-5000 tons depending on virus yellows! Could get quite tedious.
On the flip side, if British Sugar suddenly decide that on the back of their increased profits, they can afford to pay properly for transport, it could be the opportunity to justify the bit of farm kit I would really love but can’t justify:

😂😂🤪

Heard a whisper today from a reliable source that beet price discussions are heading for 3rdparty arbitration, any one shed any light on this matter. Have set aside acreage for beet but growing it next year is up in the air

So £25 isn’t enough for you? What is the number you need?

Need or want.... rather just want some clarity to the job In general .
If you're going to negotiate you need to have a target price in mind.

£29, the job is too risky with virus yellows, rocketing input prices, the expensive damage to your following wheat yields, soil structure, farm tracks, clamp costs etc. And British Sugar will think £29 is more presentable to their shareholders than £30.

How many of you cracked on and got osr in at decent prices, rather than hung around for the usual bs merry-go-round?

Maybe they will say £23, and see how many of you still plant it...

a few might but not enough to keep large factories going. Didn't PX farms drop a massive tonnage this year?
I think the haulage issues this year will just put more off (if beet sits roadside for many weeks) and even £30/t isn't going to be enough. There will be many like me with another year left on a 3yr deal... what then!!!

Who knows. BS will pay the minimum required to get enough beet for their needs. Like you said @Daniel they need to placate shareholders and farmers. And if they don't offer enough when people like mine and @farmerfred86's 3 year deals run out we won't grow. BS need to make a pound and we as growers do too.

Barely. Our haulage allowance (final amount) is based on actual costs though isn’t it? 2 things that strike me, why do they particularly want beet from within 28miles of the factory? Secondly I’m slightly disappointed that the market bonus has been scrapped, I never expected to receive anything but hoped it was there to protect growers from unexpected price rises so we can get a share of any unexpected BS profits.
