Biomass pipe insulation

Recently run some new pipes underground to put heating into the workshop from the boiler. We have about a metre of pipe sticking out the ground before it goes into the workshop we obviously need to cover up properly before reporting the alteration to our system to ofgem. I’m having metal box made up that will be bolted to the concrete yard and then bolted to the shed wall but wondering is there a spec of insulation needed to can put into the metal box to show I’m trying to avoid heat loss. Is normal house insulation sufficient?

What pipe is in the ground!?

please tell me it is Pre insulated?

normally by the time you strip the insulation back you only have a foot spare. Put some standard insulation over it and make a box as you say, doubt they will care then

Yes of course pre-insulated underground. There is about a foot spare where it’s been cut back to join into a 90 degree fitting but I want to cover everything that’s above ground before it enters the shed.

So ofgem don’t have an insulation spec then? Just household would be fine.

I don't know ofgem from Adam. Usually the biggest thing is eliminating air flow, so 2" of foam would be best, or fiberglass/rockwool inside of foam sealed with canned foam, so there's no air leakage, but no foam touching the pipes if they're close to steam temps.

External exposed pipe needs to be at least 50mm insulated. Take photos of the lagging before you box it in. Use a ruler to show the thickness.

So where is the meter?
Should there not be one in the workshop? At the end of the pipe.
Heat losses from pipe work are not eligible for RHI..
Or has things changed?

As said heat loss calculations can be deducted or a meter can be installed.
Don't hang about getting it updated on ofgem and the new Schematic of the system on hand or any inspection could be very painful.

Talking biomass pipework - I've an underworked boiler and am toying with the idea of putting a baseload of 75kw into the three sheds pictured.

I'd like to size the pipework to deliver 225kw to those 3 sheds, but size it so this flow and return can deliver another 225kw to a new shed that's presently quite a long way down the to do list.

How much sounds about right for a project like this? So far I've been quoted £20k for 4" welded steel pipework and £13k for 3" of insulation and aluminium cladding (internal and external). I've absolutely no idea whether that's competitive. Opinions?
