Does the 2nd fixed price deal ends in December?
Yes the 28p one ends at the end of the year, I have it but not the latest one. I worked it out for my seasonality it was 27.4p which is less than the 2nd one, is that what passes for progress in the dairy industry?? I'm not sure they have a future given the rate of input cost inflation, there probably needs to be some sort of indexing of the price but then it wouldn't be a FIXED price scheme would it🤔🤔

No such thing as independent, every one is in someone’s pocket.

but does it really matter, as long as the cows milk well and are healthy. Ok they might push a product they’re getting a good margin at but if it doesn’t work they won’t stay about long.

Surely it does matter because cows can milk well on very simple diets so any other products need to add value. So many of the diets are fairly complicated that it’s hard to identify if some products are worth it or not

So he makes a simple diet but uses more maize gluten rather than distillers because he knows the mill 20miles away has it bought better than the one down the road. The farmer is pricing around so the one further away is at an advantage. Farmer goes with them and independent man gets a good Christmas present for his efforts. But did the gluten make a better diet over the distillers? Maybe they do milk well but could they have milked better? How do you know?

That’s my point, does it matter if they are independent? if the cows are doing well, the nutritionist has done his job, whether that’s by choosing certain additives or raw materials it’s in their interests for cows to perform

I suppose if you trust them completely then it doesn’t matter if they are independent or not.
