quick fixes, bodges and creations

I am well chuffed with todays effort in the workshop.Someone kindly gave me this electric fence unit about ten years ago and its done sterling service, but a couple of weeks ago it didn't respond to having a fresh battery.
Having undone all the screws possible, tested the capacitor and bought a new one, which made no difference, I had a prod about with the tester and found a resistor on the board that was open circuit. Emailed a picture to brother who knows about these things, he said 100 ohm, got ten for 50p, and guess what. Its effin workin! Not the smartest soldering, and breach of thread rules, it was a brand new resistor.

Nice fix...

However I guess the purists might be more inclined to forgive you for meddling in the dark arts of electricery if you had pulled apart something else to find and reuse another resistor of near enough the same value, only rused the solder of the boards and scraped some sap of a pine tree for flux.

Or elderly or infirmed. In which case the strategic use of the 2 screwdrivers to hold the step ladder on , may be their undoing.....
Our neighbour used to have a two gallon paint pot in tractor with him on a length of string. Pop it on floor to get in then use the bale twine to pull it back into cab and off he went. Reverse the procedure to dismount….
