sh!t, that wasn`t the runway then
"Messerschmitt 109 of 3./JG52 which had been shot down at Penshurst Aerodrome, Kent on 27 October 1940. Its pilot, Fw Shieverhofer, was taken prisoner - allegedly by the Spitfire pilot of 74 Squadron who had shot him down and who immediately put down on the Penshurst landing ground to ensure the Luftwaffe pilot's capture. A rather precariously overhanging load is counterbalanced by its heavy DB 601 engine"

Sadly heading to a scrapyard no doubt ?

My grandad was out in the woods in Leigh when this went down, he was 10 years old and with his stepfather who was a forestry man and he said it was the closest he ever got to the war.

Love the Chinese six Commers!

(yes, I know I’ll be flogged for calling them that… but I don’t know Commer’s name for that layout!)
Flogged, never, that's what it is. I would doubt if Commer built it, more likely a conversion job. Maybe some would call it a twin steer though.

Where is this photo from, Australia or New Zealand? I was thinking the car in the background could be a Holden if so.

Talk was that this Kittle Bros Atkinson - powered by a Detroit 12V71 - was the most powerful prime mover in the Northern Territory at the time. Kittle were BP agents in Tennant Creek.

In later years it was converted to a prime-mover to tow semi trailers in Western Australia. Credit: Len Kittle

we would call it twin steer

not uncommon here ( twin steer that is ), as in my above Atkinson post. Still used in heavier duty applications even now

we had a few commer trucks here back when I was a kid. That’s about 40 + years ago now & I haven’t seen any since
