The DPF light has come on on my wagon dashboard still drives ok can you bl ow these filters out ive not a clue im useless with mechanics

You need to get the DPF up to temperature and keep it there for decent amount of time (say 30 mins) to get the soot to burn out of it. Idling won't do it, you'll need the engine under a bit of load to get the exhaust gas temperature up without the gas being too sooty - on a car/van you'd normally suggest driving down the motorway for a couple of junctions.

They can be removed and sent away for cleaning but no you wont just blow it out with airline.

Google DPF cleaning. Theres bound to be some clever tit on YouTube that cleans them with TFR and a pressure washer😂🙈 (I dont recommend)

Plenty of mechanics used to clean them out with a metal rod and a big hammer.

There are some cerium based additives that can be added to the fuel to help as well, but they won't do much to the soot cake that's already in the DPF. What's the engine?

I've seen people Steam clean them out and knock f**k out of them... They reckoned they were fine after.

Never had one off myself..

In other words , knock the works out and drive like all the taxis on veg oil from Tesco. Then wonder why the tabloids go on about the evil of diesel engines

No not quite.. But you can always chop the insides out like you probably thought I meant.

Meanwhile.

Veg Oil in Common rails. Must be substandard old taxis in your area.

Chopping the insides out is no good when you get to MOT, i think they pick up on that sort of thing now and its a fail.

I bet its not many more years till they clamp down on agri emissions were machines have been modified and are no longer meeting there original emissions target.

I suspect there are plenty of back street garages still removing them and also handing out MOTs for the same cars

I did that to one I had on a Ford Kuga, out of desparation when it kept misbehaving. Ran a hose down it for a few hours until the soot stopped flowing and the water was clear, then added a bit of Karcher pressure (which wasn't as wise, I concede) until some fluffy wool started to come out. Pushed the wool back in dried it out and then fitted it back on the car. Worked fine, but I know I was lucky.

That should probably be in the Bodges thread, now I think about it.

That's a new one, I've never heard of anyone doing that before and I've tested a fair few DPFs in my time. I'm amazed that still works. Did you push the water through from the engine side of the DPF or the tailpipe side?

Might work - Might not.

If you need a proper solution and are round and about the M62 Corridor then these guys will sort it - It's where main dealers send their problem vehicles
